Evelyn Hugo’s Legacy
Based on the wildly popular book by Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is the story of the aging Hollywood starlet Evelyn Hugo. In a long-awaited interview with an unexpected young journalist, she tells the world the truth behind her seven marriages. Full of scandal, betrayals and true love, the book came out in 2017 but remains on bestseller lists today.
Netflix first announced the film adaptation in March 2022, after the book regained popularity on TikTok in 2021. Since then, however, there’s been little new information about the project. Fans online have plenty of opinions about who to cast in all the major roles, but only time will tell if their predictions come true.

A New Director
Previously, Leslye Headland was attached to direct the project. However, the co-creator of Russian Doll and director of Star Wars series The Acolyte announced in January that she was no longer involved. This week, Deadline revealed in an exclusive that Maggie Betts, whose credits include Amazon MGM’s The Burial and the 2017 film Novitiate, has taken on the role. In addition to directing, Betts will also co-write the screenplay with Liz Tigelaar, the producer and writer for Little Fires Everywhere and Tiny Beautiful Things. Author Reid is also attached to executive produce the film.
