The RUNWAY
With Valentine’s Day fresh in our minds, romance is the center of this week’s first pick. Domi and Nokdu’s adaptation of Hirachell’s The RUNWAY follows Jian, a fashion magazine editor who takes an impromptu trip to Paris. This change of scenery is all thanks to finding out her ex-fiance was having an affair behind her back. Things look good in the city of love when sparks fly with a mysterious man one night. But three months later, Jian comes face to face with her new boss. Was one night all they were destined for? Or is there more blooming between them?
We love a series that isn’t afraid to shy away from our most uncomfortable moments, like finding out the guy you had a one-night stand with is now your new boss. The RUNWAY leans into this idea while adding a level of grump-sunshine and drama. There is a level of over-the-top without feeling like their romance is too far out there. It’s a great series to tune into if you like some edge to your romantic comedies. And, since the series is completed, you can spend the entire weekend binge-reading it. Nothing sounds better than a weekend in bed with chocolates and a great story.

Secret Playlist
Our second WEBTOON series for Saturday Morning Webtoons centers on romance again. 2F’s Secret Playlist follows ordinary university student Hanju. Except, she isn’t that ordinary at all. She also happens to be an up-and-coming cover artist who is growing in popularity on Metube. She manages to balance both lives without giving away her identity until Levi, a member of a popular boy group, wants to start collaborating with her. Keeping her secrets is not easy, but Hanju is doing her best. But what happens when the two grow close, and lines begin to blur? Is she willing to let someone in? Or will Levi never get to know who she truly is?
Who doesn’t love a case of hidden identity? Secret Playlist leans into this idea in a way we have seen before. However, it never feels outplayed or overrated. Instead, watching Hanju and Levi go back and forth feels nostalgic. We watch the two weave around each other and recognize why Hanju feels so protective of her identity. And Levi has his own struggles to contend with that help build his character throughout the series. Like The RUNWAY, Secret Playlist is a completed series. We highly suggest bingeing this with your favorite background music flowing in the room to help set the romantic mood.
