I saw this trailer for The Rover before seeing Godzilla.
It looks great. And depressing. And bleak. A thought provoking story. Did I mention depressing?
The Rover is classic dystopia: the world has gone to shit, we’re at each others’ throats. Food, water and protection are hard to come by. Anarchy reigns, this time in the Australian Outback. It’s all enough to make your butt pucker.
We have Guy Pierce who plays Eric, a man with rage issues seething from his pores. He’s lost his family and remembers the good times (Mad Max, anyone?) We have Robert Pattison who plays an American from the South named Reynolds. He’s slow, simple and scared.Needless to say, their lives intertwine and a story unfolds.
This is realistic look at what happens after humanity takes the plunge. It doesn’t have all the punk trappings of a movie like Mad Max which helped the audience separate themselves from the possibility of this kind of future. The Rover pretty much shows you the dark road that is a likely reality. Yay!
Take a look at the trailer. It’s moving. It’s scary. I said depressing already, right?
