In 2014, Disney surprised audiences by bringing a new spin to a classic film in their vault. It was Sleeping Beauty – but from the point of view of the villain. Maleficent turned out to be a gigantic hit! Now the Queen of the Moors is back and up to no good. Again. In the early hours of the morning, Disney released it’s first look at the sequel film with a teaser.

In the trailer we hear the horned fairy, the titular Maleficent (Angelina Jolie), recalling a story. The one of the “evil witch” who cursed the princess to sleep forever. The story faded into legend but “this is no fairy tale”. Now she has a new enemy. Her advisory comes in the form of the current queen, Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer) who is accused of praying on the weak. Likely meaning that she’s killing the magical creatures living within the moor. The two queens will go to war – but will Aurora (Elle Fanning) be able to stop them?

The teaser is filled with fantastical images and some cheesy dialogue. From what we’ve gathered from the plot, it seems like they’re just rehashing the same plot of the first film. Magical creatures are in danger because of humans so let’s destroy the humans. Only this time instead of revenge against a former lover it’s a queen. They wrapped things up so nicely in the first film, so it’s strange to attempt to make another story out of it. We’ll have to see how it turns out in the end. In the mean time, you need to check out the trailer for yourself!
