Well, this was a creepy little episode of The Mist! Put a couple chills through me on this scorching summer day, so let’s dive in!
It’s Bryan vs Bryan! Our Bryan asks Real Bryan who he is, and Real Bryan says he’s his friend, doesn’t he remember? Then Real Bryan attacks Our Bryan and the fight is intense and rough. Our Bryan gets Real Bryan in a chokehold and demands that Real Bryan tell Our Bryan who he is. Real Bryan says, “They will find you,” and they tussle one last time and Our Bryan kills Real Bryan after a final fight.
The doc finds Kevin and asks what happened to Mike. Kevin doesn’t really want to talk about it, and a nurse interrupts to inform the doctor that some patients are missing. Adrian overhears, and confronts the nurse, who admits that people are disappearing., but hey, they’re low staffed and it’s kind of hard to keep track of everyone. Kevin grabs Adrian and tells him they’re leaving. Adrian doesn’t want to leave Bryan, but Kevin reminds him that he has Mia. He agrees and says he needs to do one thing first.
Alex is having survivor’s guilt over poor Lilah, thinking she could have done something different to help her. Eve tries to reassure her, but Alex just keeps wondering why it didn’t want her and that there must be something wrong with her. To distract Alex, Eve invites her on a field trip.
Sheriff Connor is contemplating his badge when Father Romanov approaches him. The priest reminds him of how much time the sheriff’s family spent at church, and how it helped him through as his wife was dying. He adds that Connor’s wife was loyal to God till the end, and asks that he not let his dead wife down by joining Natalie’s team. It feels like a bit of a low blow.
Link (formerly known as Enthusiastic Parishioner) tattles that Natalie is leading a group out in the church in discussion about the Black Spring. Father Romanov starts a hymn on the organ to break it up, but Natalie and her crew just leave the main room. Ya burnt, Father!
Adrian approaches Jerk Football Player Who’s Still In The Closet (no official name given) to say he’s leaving and that their encounter was “interesting,” but all the other guys does is remind him of the beating he gave Adrian.
Kevin and Adrian go to the front door and see that the car is missing, and realize Mia stole the keys and drove off. They rush to Bryan, but he’s alone and doesn’t know where Mia is. Adrian stays with Bryan while Kevin goes off in search of another vehicle. He’s searching the hospital offices when he hears a strange noise.
Eve takes Alex for a little clothes shopping, and have a little mother daughter bonding. Alex suddenly gets the idea that she should go out into the mist to find her dad or other help, since the mist doesn’t want to mess with her. Mom kind of talks her down and they have a little more fun with clothes. Lilah’s mom sees their sweet moment and is clearly jealous.
Mia drives back to her mom’s old house to retrieve her bag of cash she left behind way back in episode one. It’s of course not in the shed where she left it in plain sight of the new homeowner (AS I HAD SUSPECTED). She goes to check the house, and sees the homeowner’s dead body on the steps, braces herself, and races inside.
Connor finds Natalie and they get a little philosophical. She’s thinking about how the mist has changed things, and that destruction can be beautiful, but that doesn’t mean she enjoys it. But, she says the mist will disappear once it has what it came for, relating a story of a mama bear killing her own cubs because they were diseased to prevent their infection spreading. Connor realizes she means that humans are the infection, but she corrects him to say not everyone, as we are part of nature too. She also assures him that once she knows what’s going on, she’ll let him know,
The distraction worked on Alex for a moment, but Eve has an idea for a bigger distraction for the group. Alex agrees to go back to their camp. Then she actually hugs her mom and says, “I love you.” Eve stops in a party store to look around.
Kevin follows the noise and it’s a woman with tape over her mouth screaming as she’s trapped to a gurney, with our former good doctor completely out of his mind about to do some kind of horrible surgery on her. Doc and Kevin fight, and he sedates Kevin, knocking him out.
Adrian and Bryan see that the power if faltering. Bryan assures Adrian that Kevin will come back, but he’s doubtful and reveals that people are disappearing. He agrees that they should go find Kevin then.
Kevin wakes up, strapped to a gurney now, with tape over his mouth. The doctor apologizes and says he can’t find an solution to help people without “experimenting,” to understand the mist’s changing behavior.
Link approaches Father Romanov again, saying he should be out there saving everyone. Father Romanov says he doesn’t know how, and Link suggests “persuasion” (aka torture), but the priest refuses. So he offers to do what Father Romanov won’t, convinced that God will forgive him. Yikes.
Mia is tearing the house apart but cannot find her cash bag. She goes upstairs and sees the mist through a keyhole in the main bedroom, but decides to bust in anyway.
Alex is in the camping store, gathering supplies. She goes in to a back room, and gets locked in. Someone pours gas under the door and lights a fire to kill her.
Eve is printing flyers when Redman spots her and asks what she’s doing. They bicker and reconcile slightly, He sees the flyers that imply some kind of National Guard or emergency presence is out there with instructions to stay inside and that help is on the way. Redman agrees to help with the idea.
Jay hears Alex and breaks down the door and saves Alex. He burns his hand on the fire extinguisher, but puts the fire out and they make it out safely. She’s still suspicious and asks how he knew was she there and if he did it. He’s totally offended by her paranoia, but admits he was looking for her because he wants to join the loading dock group after they kicked out Vic. “They’re losing their minds” he tells her. She offers to help with his injured hand.
Mia is searching and searching and finally finds the bag of cash under the bed. She gets out of the main bedroom and into another room, that’s mist-free. But then writing appears on the wall. “Welcome home, baby doll,” it says. Creeeeeeeeepy.
She immediately leaves the room (smart) and ends up in the kitchen, where a radio is playing music. Mia breaks the radio but the music keeps playing and suddenly she’s back in the room. She insists it’s not real, but then her mom appears in the bed.
Link tells Natalie Father Romanov needs to see her, and leads her up to the church attack. Natalie is suspicious, and rightly so because Link locks her in the room with him. He then berates her about repenting and accepting God, and slaps her. Link says he will continue to hurt her until she repents, picking up a weapon. Luckily, she’s able to grab one too, and smashes the stained glass window to allow the mist in. He begins screaming as she escapes and locks the door.
The doctor is explaining his theories on the mist and how it responds to individuals in its attacks, describing previous patients and their mist-related deaths. He also adds that the attacks happen within 30 seconds of mist exposure, so he gives Kevin an injection and locks him in a mist-filled room to see what happens to Kevin.
Mia interacts with her creepy undead mom, who tells her she abandoned her in the hospital and that she was supposed to take care of her. She tries to leave, but every time she tries to leave, she ends up back in the room in a trip sequence. And each time, her mom wears her down more and more, pushing all the emotional buttons until she says “Let me be a mom,” and help her die. “I don’t want to die,” Mia says. Mom is guiding her to slit her wrists and tell her no one is waiting for her. That snaps Mia out of the mist funk, and she clubs undead mom in the head, leaving the room for real, cash in hand. She hops in the car and drives away.
It’s been a minute and a half, but Kevin hasn’t been attacked by the mist yet, fascinating the cuckoo doctor. Kevin is seeing things, like a melting gurney and an owl. He also sees himself standing outside of his body, looking a little menacingly at him. Bryan sneaks up and attacks the doc, and stabs him. Adrian gets Kevin off the gurney, and they all escape.
Eve sees Jay with Alex, and walks up and punches Jay right across the face. Alex explains what happened, and that Jay is afraid of Redman and the main group. He makes his case to Eve, and she allows him to join their small group, but says she will shoot off any body part of his that touches Alex.
Natalie returns to the group and explains the attack from Link. She says the mist came and saved her, but she doesn’t know why she was attacked. But then she turns to Father Romanov and asks if he knows.
The main group finds the flyers and are ecstatic, thinking help is on the way. Redman looks regretful though, and Eve has a similar feeling when she sees her group’s reaction. Jay joins the group officially, but Eve is still reluctant.
The boys are leaving as Mia finds them. They’re pretty annoyed, not believing her lie about getting gas, but they decide to leave with her anyway. As they make their way out, the last of the power in the building dies and people start panicking. The mist pours in through the main doors, left wide open without power. The group can’t find the car, and the mist is coming fast and furious, so Mia leads them back into the hospital. She decides to get them to the only place the doors will stay closed in a hospital without power–the psych ward.
Kevin sees the mist crawling down the hallway towards them.
And that’s it! Cliffhanger! This was finally the level of creepy I have been hoping for on the show. Some of it was expected, like Mia being tricked by her Mom in the mist, but it was well done. I didn’t expect the doctor to totally lose it, so that was a creepy thrill too.

Points of Interest
- New Mist Power: Messing with your mind hardcore and making you attempt suicide. Also, according to the doctor, deaths specific to you.
- I love Bryan, but maybe killing the guy who apparently knows who you are is a bad idea.
- It’s worth reiterating how good the creepy stuff was.
- The church, mall, and hospital have all got to be running out of food soon, right?
- That church also seems to have a kitchen in it? That’s convenient. Unless Father Romanov lives there, then it makes more sense.
- Finally Alex stopped hating her mom for five seconds.
- I dig Connor and Natalie’s friendship
