The new Matrix 4 trailer appeared, and it seems like it finally revealed the movie title. Nearly two decades after the original Matrix trilogy came to an end, the fourth movie revolving around Neo and humanity’s epic war against the machines will be available for streaming on HBO MAX this year.

While there has been much speculation concerning the title, it looks like the filmmakers chose a concise and minimalistic approach. In the trailer, around the 00:25 mark, we can see a succinct title that only says Matrix.

Usually, the title can reveal so much, including the entire direction a movie is headed into. However, stripping the title away of any surrounding words has managed to take our anticipation to the next level. Although the details regarding the plot of Matrix 4 remain a mystery, we believe it will be a continuation of 2003’s The Matrix Revolutions.

We know so far that Neo and Trinity, played by Keany Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss respectively, will reprise their previous roles, despite seemingly dying in the last Matrix installment.

From the Wachowski siblings who directed the trilogy, we’ll see only one half — Lana Wachowski, who’ll return as the movie’s sole director. Joining her as co-screenwriters, we have novelists Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell.

What Does Keanu Reeves Say About the Movie?

The trilogy star himself revealed some details that gave us an insight into what we could expect from the movie. Essentially, he described the fourth installment as a love story. He also applauded the director, Lana, for the script she wrote alongside the two screenwriters.

Reeves further said that the movie is inspiring, but that it also has some great action where all will be revealed. Last year, the actor said he was in awe of what the director and her team created, adding that he’s excited to work with her again.

Who Will Join Keanu and Carrie-Anne on Screen?

Apart from the main characters, Neo and Trinity, we’ll also see some other familiar faces returning for more sci-fi action, including Lambert Wilson and Jada Pinkett Smith, who will reprise their previous roles in the franchise.

Matrix will also show some new faces and introduce us to some new and unique characters. Priyanka Chopra, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff, Jessica Henwick, Toby Onwumere, Eréndira Ibarra, Max Riemelt, Brian J. Smith, Andrew Caldwell, and Ellen Hollman have all landed roles.

When Will the Matrix Hit the Theaters?

The movie was initially scheduled for release on April 1, 2022, mainly due to the coronavirus pandemic, which interfered with the filming process. However, the most recent news says that Matrix will be ready for streaming a little earlier than predicted — a couple of months earlier, to be precise.

The release of Matrix is scheduled for December 22, 2021, thanks to the recent changes.

There have been announcements stating that the movie will be available for streaming on HBO Max in the United States for a whole month beginning on the same date (Dec. 22. However, Lana Wachowski reportedly insists the movie receives an exclusive run in the theatres before becoming available for at-home streaming. With many months to go, you’d better find something else to get you entertained. Did you know that even with a really low deposit, some online casino sites can give you great deals?
