The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe entry, The Marvels, has a new scheduled release date, as reported by Deadline. Previously, the movie had been scheduled for release on July 28, 2023. The midsummer release date will now be occupied by Haunted Mansion, originally scheduled for August 11, 2023.
The Marvels
The highly anticipated The Marvels is directed by Nia DaCosta and is a sequel to several previous MCU releases. These include the 2019 movie Captain Marvel and the Disney Plus shows WandaVision (2021) and Ms. Marvel (2022). It stars Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Brie Larson as Carol Danvers. It will also feature the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, a role he has played since the 2008 movie that launched the MCU, Iron Man.

Where were the Marvels when last we saw them? Rambeau was last seen in the Westview, New Jersey, movie theater wreckage during the series finale of WandaVision. There, an unnamed Skrull recruited her to a new S.W.O.R.D. division. She may be from Louisiana, but now she works in outer space!
Meanwhile, Danvers and Khan were last seen in the Ms. Marvel Season 1 finale. The pair of Marvels appear to exchange physical locations in a mid-credit scene. This was in spite of the fact that Khan had been in New Jersey, while Danvers was last seen to be far away on a trek amongst the stars (in a mid-credits scene for 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).
MCU triangulation
The news is announced just as the most recent entry in the MCU, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, arrives in theaters. That movie features the big-screen debut of Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror. Majors previously played a Variant of Kang, “He Who Remains,” in the season finale of the Disney Plus series Loki (2021). Billed as the big bad of the MCU’s Phase Five, it’s currently unclear whether or not he will appear in The Marvels.

However, MCU fans will not have to wait until the eleventh month of the year for more from Earth-616. On May 5, 2023, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will complete the trilogy from Big 2 double-dipper James Gunn.
