New THE MARVELS Featurette Goes Higher, Further, Faster, Together

On Thursday, August 31, 2023, Marvel Studios released a brand-new The Marvels featurette tracing the road to the upcoming movie. The next big-screen outing for the Marvel Cinematic Universe will feature a trio of heroes: Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani).

The Marvels Featurette

The Marvels featurette opens with new footage of Danvers traveling through space. She is accompanied by Goose the cat, who is riding on her shoulder. However, the narration explains that Danvers needs to recover the memories stolen from her by the Kree. This leads to a montage of footage first seen in 2019’s Captain Marvel. This includes scenes shared between Danvers and the younger version of Monica Rambeau (Azari Akbar).

Next, the action shifts to the adult Rambeau. After some The Marvels footage of Rambeau in a space suit (see also: the previous teaser), Rambeau recounts the events of WandaVision to Danvers as scenes from that series are played. We also see a few shots of Rambeau speaking with Danvers and Khan’s family (also seen in the previous teaser).

This gives way to new footage of Khan interacting with Danvers and Rambeau. Danvers asks Khan where she got her gauntlets. In keeping with the pattern established by the Danvers and Rambeau segments, this results in footage from Ms. Marvel.

The trailer culminates in a series of action shots from The Marvels, again set to “Intergalactic” by the Beastie Boys. These shots feature multiple battles and several shots of the trio switching places with one another at inconvenient times. The climactic shot features Danvers, Rambeau and Khan all leaping into action against Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton). In a voice-over, the three heroes all say, “Higher. Faster. Further. Together.”
