So is it safe to say the proverbial shit has hit the Wellspring? This week’s episode of The Magicians, “Plan B,” was one for the books. We saw our favorite demon-spawn ridden hedge witch Julia join forces with the rest of the Brakebills gang for a bank heist. Julia’s soul, as it turns out, is entangled with said demon fetus and requires an exorcism. Unfortunately, exorcisms are not cheap – this particular one sang to the tune of 1 million dollars…in gold. While Julia and Kady ponder their next move (which may or may not involve raiding pawn shops for gold chains), Julia is attacked by an invisible demon. Kady suggests they vanish behind the safe magical wards of Brakebills.
Julia and Quentin reunite, where she divulges a potential plan to rob a bank to pay for her exorcism. Quentin hops aboard the felony train, with Golem Eliot and Golem Margo following suit when they reveal Fillory is flat broke. Margo confesses she’s robbed a bank in the past and proffers a fool-proof plan. Penny will be the real key, as he can travel inside the vault. However, since banks are also warded out the wazoo, Penny cannot touch the ground. He won’t be able to breath. Apparently, vaults are also protected from travelers. Things seem to be on the up and up when Penny is inside the vault, floating thanks to Eliot and Margo’s levitation device. I make those in my spare time too.
Unfortunately he loads up on too much gold and gravity kicks in, forcing him to touch the ground.
Our gang races against time to free him. Thanks to Julia’s time hopping machine that grants them five chances to rewind time in 15 second intervals, they do just that. Brakebills is really a breeding ground for inventors. Once they escape with Penny, Golem Eliot takes one for the team. This causes the real Eliot to seize in Fillory.
Meanwhile, Julia gets her demon spawn magically exorcised and all seems right with the world. That is, until Kady reveals to her friend there was a complication. Uh oh!

Alright, friends, I know this episode ended on a massive cliffhanger. If you’re like me, you need something to satiate your thirst until next week. Luckily for you there’s a tasty sneak peek of Episode 8, “Word as Bond.”
We see Niffin Alice and Quentin broker their deal. This contract will grant Niffin Alice temporary access of Quentin’s body. Backseat driver no more! Margo fills Q in on the state of Eliot, who is comatose following the gruesome death of his golem. She also reveals that magic is still on the fritz thanks to Ember and his unwanted gift to the Wellspring.
