Amazon Prime released the first look at the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power with quite a few handy posters. The character posters were released on the show’s social media pages. There are 19 posters in all and there’s at least one that everyone will recognize. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay serve as showrunners and writers for the prequep series.

The cast also inlcudes: Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Tyroe Muhafidin, Daniel Weyman, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Maxim Baldry, Ian Blackburn, Kip Chapman, Anthony Crum, Maxine Cunliffe, Trystan Gravelle, Thusitha Jayasundera, Fabian McCallum, Simon Merrells, Geoff Morrell, Peter Mullan, Lloyd Owen, Charles Edwards, Will Fletcher, Amelie Child-Villiers, Beau Cassidy, Augustus Prew, Peter Tait, Alex Tarrant, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Sara Zwangobani, and Sir Lenny Henry.

Based on the J.R.R. Tolkien novel The Lord of the Rings, the series takes place in the Second Age. This the age when the Rings of Power were forged by the dreaded Sauron, the most notable of the posters. The events of the Second Age are covered in the appendices of the Lord of the Rings novel. However, we don’t know much about the premise of the story.
Most of the characters are holding something that may give a clue if they are elf, dwarf, man or other. There is one character who’s hands you cannot see because they are wearing gloves. These gloves look very much like the ones Sauron wears in the flashbacks of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Is this Sauron? Probably, but it could also be his master Morgoth. Hmmm… I’m expecting to see characters that we heard very little about in the movie trilogy. Or maybe characters we saw briefly but did not know who they were or what part they played. We’ll find out very soon.
LOTR: The Rings of Power season one completed filming in New Zealand back in August 2021. Season two has already been confirmed and will film in the UK at the Amazon Prime studios within the first part of 2022.
Here is the synopsis:
Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and one of the greatest villains that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared reemergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premieres on Amazon Prime in September.
