We’re now part of her world. D23 Expo 2022 continues to bless us with surprises, including the teaser trailer for Disney’s live-action version of The Little Mermaid! Halle Bailey leads the charge as Ariel, everyone’s favorite songstress of the sea.

While the teaser doesn’t reveal much, we glimpse Ariel’s ocean haven as we hear a gorgeous orchestration of “Part of Your World.” Ariel wends her way through sea caverns while en route to her secret grotto, where she stores her treasure trove of objects from the human world.

At the end of the clip, Ariel finally faces the camera and belts out a few lines of the tune. Firstly, Bailey looks ethereal, fully inhabiting this character in every way. She is Ariel. Additionally, her voice is stunning, with an angelic timbre befitting our little mermaid. I had goosebumps. My eyes might have welled with tears (they did). The Little Mermaid means so much to me, and it’s wonderful to see a live-action film come to life.

Joining Bailey in the cast is Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs voicing Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay voicing Flounder and Awkwafina voicing Scuttle.

Rob Marshall is at the helm with a script from Jane Goldman and David Magee. Alan Menken, the Disney music king, returns to pen four new songs alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda, keeping in the spirit of the 1989 animated film’s boisterous energy. Said songs also include a new opening.

Take a peek at the lovely teaser below, and be sure to join Ariel for a musical journey under the sea when The Little Mermaid hits theaters on May 26, 2023.
