The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special

Get ready to return to a galaxy far, far away this fall! The LEGO Star Wars Special is aiming for a Disney Plus debut! Delving back into the Star Wars universe will be a balm for the soul amid this abysmal year. The announcement was made Thursday in Burbank, California.

Now, The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will reunite our protagonists Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewie, Rose, and the droids as they celebrate the festive Life Day. Life Day was initially established in the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. Here’s the synopsis from the official press release:

This holiday season, Disney+ invites LEGO and Star Wars fans to Chewbacca’s homeworld of Kashyyyk for a Wookiee-sized celebration of the galaxy’s most cheerful and magical holiday, Life Day.
Directly following the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rey leaves her friends to prepare for Life Day as she sets off on a new adventure with BB-8 to gain a deeper knowledge of the Force. At a mysterious Jedi Temple, she is hurled into a cross-timeline adventure through beloved moments in Star Wars cinematic history, coming into contact with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan, and other iconic heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker saga films. But will she make it back in time for the Life
Day feast and learn the true meaning of holiday spirit?

In addition to the upcoming The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, a LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar will be available for purchase on September 1st. Said calendar was designed to be in concert with the holiday production.

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is a production of Atomic Cartoons, the LEGO Group, and Lucasfilm. It’s directed by Ken Cunningham and written by David Shayne, who’s also co-executive producer. James Waugh, Josh Rimes, Jason Cosler, Jacqui Lopez, Jill Wilfert, and Keith Malone are executive producers

I’m always game for more Star Wars content. The plot is original and it’s not a full-on, verbatim rehashing of the Star Wars Holiday Special. Instead, Disney is revitalizing the Life Day celebration for a new generation while still honoring the original Skywalker films that made Star Wars a classic staple in science fiction. A wonderful saga that ensures the Force is with us all.

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is set to premiere on Disney Plus November 17th.
