The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released six weeks ago. However, the breadth of the newest mainline entry in The Legend of Zelda series means it remains on many gamers’ playlists.
Tears of the Kingdom begins in the skies. Soon, the narrative progresses to Hyrule’s surface. But it is the further addition of the vast and murky Depths that makes this the “three-dimensional chess” of Zelda games. Here are even more tips and tricks to help you on your continuing journey through Tears of the Kingdom.
Easy Recipes
Cooking has been an important part of the series since it was introduced in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In Tears of the Kingdom, tools like the portable cooking pot bring in-game meal prep to a whole new level.

As discussed in the previous entry, strategic cooking can make all the difference to Link. However, there are far too many recipes to commit them all to memory. Fortunately, by selecting food items in your inventory, you have the option to “Select for recipe.” This option will provide you with a menu of the various meals that you have previously cooked with the item. Furthermore, it will provide a handy reference for any additional ingredients you may need to locate for a particular dish.
Light up the Lightroots
At Lookout Landing, Josha is the precocious young scientist who serves as Head of Depths Research. Over the course of Tears of the Kingdom, Josha sends Link on various missions to the Depths. The voluminous area beneath the surface of Hyrule is an entire section of the map unto itself.
In order to properly explore the Depths, Link will need light. To achieve this, players will need to activate the dozens of Lightroots located throughout the Depths. Fortunately, even before activation, Lightroots glow relatively brightly in the darkness of the Depths. Look around until you’ve located one, then make a beeline for it. By activating the Lightroots, the Depths become navigable. Plus, keep in mind that the Skeleton Horses are very easy to tame.
Climb for Koroks
As players discover early on in the game, searching out Koroks is an ongoing task. These magical plant-like creatures are hidden throughout the surface and skies of Hyrule. Some need to be reunited with their friends. Others may appear after players solve “reverse Jenga” puzzles hidden throughout the realm. The seeds surrendered by Koroks are key in expanding storage for weapons, shields and bows.

One reliable strategy for locating Koroks should not be overlooked: climbing. Whether it’s a Hylian-made structure or a naturally occurring formation, the apex of many of Hyrule’s highest points is home to the elusive Koroks.
There are 4 Lights
Each time a Light Shrine is complete, Link will be rewarded with a Light of Blessing. Once 4 Lights have been gathered, Link can exchange them for an additional heart container or an expansion of his stamina wheel. This is accomplished by praying at the Goddess Statue. One of these is located in the Emergency Shelter at Lookout Landing.
It may be tempting to stockpile these the Lights of Blessing. However, as soon as Link has received the fourth light, consider traveling to the Emergency Shelter at Lookout Landing and exchanging them. As soon as Link’s abilities have been restored at the statue, he can even beam directly back to the recently completed Shrine.
Listen to the Music
If possible, it’s extremely useful to listen to the music in Tears of the Kingdom. In part, this is just because it is so enjoyable. There is a reason that the Zelda series is so well renowned for its music. However, it can also provide important information.

One example is the ominous music that begins to play when an enemy has spotted you. Sometimes, you may hear this music even though you haven’t spotted the enemy yet. In instances like this, it is always acceptable to run away. While many of the enemies in the game are powerful, Link can often run much faster than they can. Flee when necessary.
Snap a Pic
Have you visited Kochi Dye Shop in Hateno Village yet? By providing Sayge with various materials, he can help you dye your clothing any color you desire. With some rock salt, this means you can soon be rocking an outfit that’s gloriously pink.
However, Sayge also provides another service. This is the reskinning of your glider. If you find fabric, you can bring it to him to have this done. But as the game progresses, Sayge will ask you to use the Purah Pad’s camera function to photograph certain things for him. When shown the photos, Sayge can design new gliders for you. Who doesn’t want a Cuckoo glider?
Beam Me Up
About to be killed by a monster? Suddenly realize you didn’t bring the inventory items you need for your mission? Just sort of bored? Consider using the Purah Pad’s map to beam yourself somewhere else.

In some games, fast travel to certain locations is only available during certain parts of the game. However, in Tears of the Kingdom, it can be accessed more frequently than you might expect. This can include in the middle of a high-altitude glider flight or the Depths as you flee an overpowered Lynel.
Upgrade the Purah Pad
An important element of Tears of the Kingdom is locating the many Shrines of Light located throughout the game. But because of the vast number of Shrines throughout Hyrule, this can grow to be a serious challenge.
Fortunately, the Purah Pad can help! After you’ve helped Josha with a few missions to the Depths, Robbie will return to the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. Visit him in the cluttered building, and he will upgrade your Purah Pad with a new feature: Shrine radar. This invaluable upgrade will sound an alert when you’re heading in the direction of a Shrine you’ve yet to visit.
