Wow. Those watching HBO’s Game of Thrones last night, got a little peek at its replacement come June and it was awesome. Just seconds into the The Leftovers trailer, I knew I was in. This new show from Damon Lindelof (Lost, Star Trek Into Darkness) looks intense and spooky and mesmerizing and crazy and disturbing and a whole bunch of other qualifiers.

The show takes place after a sort of “Rapture” happens. It’s not evident in the trailer if it’s religious in nature. Whatever the reason, 2% of the world’s population has disappeared and now we get to watch how the “leftovers” handle the sudden drop in population. There are a lot of distraught and confused humans. They’re not happy and miss the 2%, some of which were family and friends. Plus, why weren’t they taken?

There’s also some kind of faction that only dress in white and smoke cigarettes. I can’t tell if they’re a religious sect or if they’re all like, “fuck it, I’m gonna smoke and roll around in the dirt in my white clothes. No one can tell me it’s bad for me anymore!” There’s also a lot of folks having sex to forget about their sadness. Mmmmm, sad sex.

The Leftovers has a supernatural premise but the execution doesn’t seem to have any of the hokeyness that some shows in that genre suffer from. Heck, I can’t even tell if it’s a genre show. Either way, I can’t wait. I. Am. In.

The Leftovers stars Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Liv Tyler, Christopher Eccleston (yes!), Ann Dowd and Curtiss Cook among many others.

Premieres June 29th.
