Something wicked this way comes. The Haunting of Bly Manor is just around the corner! On Monday, the official Twitter account for the anthology series shared a slew of character stills and a brand new poster. Creator Mike Flanagan is also behind The Haunting of Hill House, which was inspired by the 1959 Shirley Jackson novel of the same name.
In a series of tweets, the account vowed that The Haunting of Bly Manor is almost nigh, but for now, “look beneath the surface.” And, sure enough, we see a handful of faces etched into the waters on the show’s official poster. As for the character photos, each highlights a member of the cast in costume for the spooky tale.
Now, the new series is a Gothic romance ghost story based on the works of Henry James. James’ 1898 horror novel, The Turn of the Screw, will serve as the soundboard for this season. Rahul Kohli, Amelia Eve, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, and T’Nia Miller were announced as new cast additions last year.
The Haunting of Bly Manor will follow a young governess who’s hired to care for a pair of peculiar siblings. However, things take a turn for the horrific when said governess discovers a formidable evil simmering beneath the surface. This evil grabs hold of the siblings and suffuses their family estate in pure Gothic and ghostly villainy. The show’s predecessor fared immensely well with audiences worldwide. Horror in general is a fantastical escape, which is sorely needed in today’s day and age. I, for one, am excited to see how Flanagan breathes life into James’ haunting novel.
