Things got a little crazy last week on The Gifted, proving that Reeva Payge (Grace Byers) and Benedict Ryan (Peter Gallagher) are simply, ‘Monsters.’ They sent Jace Turner (Coby Bell) the Purifiers to destroy the Morlocks. The Mutant Underground was able to save most of the Morlocks, but many of the fighters perished. John (Blair Redford) watched Clarice/Blink (Jamie Chung) get shot, but is she still alive?
Meanwhile, the police are chasing Caitlin (Amy Acker), Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and their car full of Morlocks. Lauren’s powers are off because Reed (Stephen Moyer) injected her with his power-suppressing serum. Can Caitlin save them all?
The Inner Circle was put on lockdown after one of their people went missing. The Frost Sisters (Skyler Samuels) found Sage (Hayley Lovitt) guilty for the disappearance and Reeva disposed of her. But it was actually Lorna/Polaris (Emma Dumont) who was responsible. Can Lorna save herself and Andy (Percy Hynes White) before Reeva finds out?

Two months ago, Clarice and John share a tender moment where Clarice tells him that she’s happy. She doesn’t feel like she deserves it after joining the Brotherhood. She used to dream about disappearing to nowhere and being in the spaces between everything. John says they are all broken in some way and they all belong in the Mutant Underground.
Present Day
Caitlin drives to a parking garage and tells everyone to scatter. The police catch up and chase everyone down. Caitlin and Lauren find an abandoned building to hide in. As they look for a door, Lauren voices her concern for the Morlocks. She wants to go back and find them. Caitlin says it’s too late. Lauren asks Caitlin if she knew that splitting up with slow the cops down. Caitlin says she knew if they stayed on the road, they would get caught. Lauren hates that they left the Morlocks behind, but Caitlin says people are depending on them. They have to get through this and hide.
Lauren looks around the building for a phone, but no luck. The police show up. Lauren wants to run, but Caitlin says they can’t. Lauren’s powers are still dormant, so Caitlin prepares to fight. They can’t get caught or everything they’ve lost and fought for will be for nothing.
Regroup
John blames Erg (Michael Luwoye) for Clarice’s death. Erg says it was John drove her away. John gets angry and punches Erg. Erg absorbs the energy, but a young Morlock stops him from attacking. Erg says he’s sorry and leaves.
Reeva tells the Inner Circle their uprising is successful. Soon everyone will see there is only one solution: two divided nations. They have to destroy the institutions of the nation that hates them. Lorna questions the difficulty of taking out government buildings because of security issues. The Frosts assure everyone that they have that part under control. Reeva hands out assignments for them all to carry out later that night. Andy comments that the plan is crazy.
Marcos (Sean Teale) and Reed get to the Morlocks to a safe place. Lorna calls to tell him about Sage. He tells her to get out of there quick before something else bad happens. Reeva’s plan is happening the next day so Lorna wants to get more information before she leaves. Reed asks about Andy. If he stays, they could lose him. Lorna says he believes in what Reeva is doing. If she can’t convince him, then it’s over for all of them. Reed begs her to bring him home.
The Purifiers work with the cops after the attack on the Morlocks. They offered to search for the runaway mutants. Jace isn’t sure he wants to continue. Wilson (Tom O’Keefe) says they have to finish what they started. Jace says he thought he was walking into a terrorist camp but there were kids down there. Wilson says those kids will grow up to be monsters too. Jace says they don’t know that. Wilson sends him to his hotel room to clear his head.
Missing Pieces
Marcos and Reed find John punching a wall in the alley where Clarice disappeared. John tells them that she got shot. She fell through a portal and he can’t leave her. Marcos tries to talk some sense into John, telling him that she’s not there anymore, but John can feel her.
Reed is on the lookout for police and Purifiers. He sees two men with guns and hides. Wilson finds Reed and asks what he’s doing. Reed plays it off as if he works in the area. He says he heard the commotion and is worried about the mutant activity. Wilson believes him until Reed’s powers manifest. Reed grabs his gun and destroys it. He tells Wilson not to make a sound, but Wilson says they are going to find his mutant friends and destroy them. Reed gets angry, grabs Wilson by the throat and burns him to a crisp.
Reed runs back to Marcos and John, saying there are Purifiers in the area. Marcos tries to pull John away from the wall. John pushes him back so hard that Marcos flies through the air. Marcos hits back with a blast of light. He tells John that Clarice would want him safe. He grabs John and they leave the area.
Saving Andy
Lorna asked to go on the scouting trip with Andy. He asks if she thinks he needs a baby sitter, but Lorna says she knows he can take care of himself. She just wanted to see what they were going to be doing. She asks if he understands that they will be dropping real buildings with real people inside. Andy says he understands that they have to make sacrifices sometimes. He says Lorna taught him that when she ripped that plane out of the sky to save everyone. That’s the reason he joined the Inner Circle. Lorna says it wasn’t easy. Hurting people leaves scars. Andy says he’s ready for a few scars.
The Inner Circle make their way to sewage tunnels near the train tracks. Andy says he used to have a thing for trains. He tells them a story about a kid he knew, super smart, that told him a lot about how trains work. Lorna sees that there’s still hope for Andy.
Reeva cleared out the Morlocks to get access to those tunnels. The tunnel system gives them access to all of the government buildings, including Sentinel Services headquarters. They are going in to neutralize the agency. Andy asks if that means they are going to kill them. Reeva asks if he has a problem with that. He says he doesn’t, but he and Lorna both do.
Ghosts
Reed, Marcos, and John make it back to the apartments. Marcos says there’s no sign of Caitlin and Lauren. They ask John to track them, but he can’t. He can only see Clarice. Reed gets agitated and his powers start to manifest again.
Marcos, John, and Reed listen to the police scanner. Marcos asks Reed about his powers. Reed says he stopping the medicine so he could learn to control the powers. He asks Marcos about when he first got his powers. Marcos was kicked out of his home when his powers manifested and it led him on a dark path. John hears the police picked up two people hiding near the water treatment facility. Reed and Marcos leave to check it out.
Guilt Sets In
Jace watches a video about the Morloc conspiracy. The guy on the video says food and supplies have been reported as stolen. He has video footage of a woman and child entering a building. Jace pauses on the child and stares at his computer.
Jace makes a late night visit to Benedict. He says the Morlock community was not a terrorist camp. Ryan isn’t concerned about the Morlocks anymore. He got word that a mutant attack is coming, one that will rival 7/15. He asks Jace if he wants to make America safe. Ryan reminds Jace that the men he lost had families too. He tells Jace what happened to Wilson. Ryan says they have to honor his memory by carrying on the fight. They need Jace more than ever.
Brave New World
Esme, Lorna, and Andy return to HQ. Esme tells them to get some rest before the next day’s excitement. Lorna is taking out the communications grid. Andy is taking down Sentinel Services. Lorna asks Esme what her part in the plan is. She and her sisters are going to force people to understand that a mutant homeland is the answer. Lorna asks if she’s okay with mind controlling their way to a mutant homeland. Shouldn’t they try and make people believe in it? Esme says someday they will.
Lorna packs up all of her things and starts to leave. She sees Andy in the common room. He says he’s psyching himself up for the attack the next day. Lorna sits with him and tells him everything she has learned in the past couple of weeks. At first, Andy doesn’t believe that Reeva would work with the Benedict Ryan. Lorna tells him that she used the Purifiers to take out her mutant competition so her uprising is all that is left. She tells him that the Morlocks used to live in those tunnels.
Andy asks if Reeva lied about everything. He asks if Rebecca died for a lie. Lorna says she didn’t want to believe it either. She wants a mutant homeland, but not like this. They can stop Reeva if they go home now. Andy says he can’t go back after everything he’s done. He thinks he deserves to be with the evil Inner Circle. He’s not the same person he was before.
Trapped
The cops prepare to move into the abandoned building. Caitlin starts shooting to hold them back. The police cut off the exits. Caitlin says she’s going to create a distraction so Lauren can get away. Lauren doesn’t want to leave her mom, but Caitlin says she needs to fight for the mutants and Andy. Lauren gets upset and throws out a blade. Her powers are back. They can fight back together.
Reed and Marcos arrive at the building where Caitlin and Lauren are held up. Reed asks Marcos to absorb the light from the street lamps. He’s going to the building to make a new entrance. They get to the back of the building and Reed tries to burn the wall, but nothing happens. Marcos starts antagonizing Reed so he will get stressed out. The cops move closer and closer to the building. Lauren puts up a shield wall. They hear a rumble and run to the back of the building to see what it is. Reed’s powers create a hole in the wall, allowing Caitlin and Lauren to escape.
Sorrow and Hope
They head home and Marcos fills in about Caitlin and Lauren about Clarice. Lorna calls Reed, saying Andy wants to talk to him. Reed asks Andy to come home. Andy apologizes, saying he can’t come home. When he attacked the Purifier at their compound, he saw his dad’s eyes. Andy knows that Reed was afraid of him. He thinks he’s a monster and he belongs with the Inner Circle. Andy says Reed wouldn’t understand, but Reed says he understands more than Andy knows.
Reed tells Andy about how he killed Wilson earlier that day. He says he lost control and killed him not because he had to, but because he wanted to. If Andy is a monster, then so is Reed. Andy hangs up. Caitlin asks if Andy is coming home, but Reed is unsure. Lauren sits in the front seat crying.
The Struckers gather food to take to the Morlocks. Reed looks at his hands and Caitlin knows he’s thinking about that man in the alley. She says he, Marcos and John wouldn’t have made it out of there if he didn’t kill that man. Reed still feels guilty, but Caitlin assures him that he’s a good man. And he did the right thing by telling Andy. Reed is afraid that their family is destined for darkness. Caitlin says he needs to join Andy in the darkness to help him find the path home.
John apologizes to Marcos for not helping. He’s missing Clarice. He’s very upset, saying, everyone, he loves dies. Marcos says she didn’t die in vain, but John feels useless for not being able to help her. A storm is coming that they won’t need to track. Marcos asks John if he can still fight.
Reunited
The Struckers sit in silence at the dinner table when someone knocks at the door. It’s Andy. He came home. They all hug him happy that they are back together. At the same time, Lorna walks into Marcos’ apartment, puts her bags down and kisses him. Their Borealis lights up.
John is on the rooftop, sharpening his ax and thinking of Clarice. He hears her call his name, but she’s not there, physically. The entire group joins him on the rooftop. Lorna walks up to him and puts her hand out to shake his. He grabs her and hugs her instead.
The Frosts looked everywhere for Lorna and Andy, but they are nowhere to be found. Reeva questions why she has empaths if they can’t tell her when her people are going to betray her. It was her dream to build a mutant homeland on the foundation of two great mutant families. Now she will have to kill them.

Thoughts
It’s been a long time coming, but the Struckers and the MU are finally back together. Except for Clarice, but I believe she’s still there. She mentioned teleporting to the spaces in between. That’s where she is and she’s alive. I think.
I can’t wait to see Andy and Lauren destroy Reeva. It has to be them. They are the only ones powerful enough to stop her deadly voice. I just wonder if the Esme will cross over too. She’s always been soft-hearted. And she knows what the Struckers are capable of.
There’s one more episode. Will the Mutant Underground prevail without losing anyone else? Will Jace switch sides? And more importantly, will we get a season 3?
