THE FLASH has been trying to save the woman he loves for most of the season.
It happened. Savitar killed Iris West. After everything Team Flash did to save her, Barry, Joe, and Tracy were unable to stop him. Savitar was ready for them. He knew Barry’s every move. Now what?

Savitar has just killed Iris (Candice Patton). He left with the speed force bazooka.
Barry (Grant Gustin) holds Iris. Joe (Jesse L. Martin)drops his gun and realizes that she’s gone. Tracy (Anne Dudek) watches nearby.
HR (Tom Cavanagh) shows up on the rooftop with Joe. He takes the gun and aims it at the ground. He sees Barry holding Iris. He’s too late.
A pair of drumsticks fall from Iris’s pockets. Iris opens her eyes and looks at Barry. She calls him BA…wait a minute. Barry is holding HR!
Flashback,
HR took the piece of Savitar’s armor that Barry cut off, several episodes ago. He used it to find Iris in Savitar’s lair. Savitar and Killer Frost are working on the suit. HR releases Iris. They leave, but the armor flies across the room, reconnecting to the suit. Savitar sends Killer Frost to take care of HR.
HR and Iris come to a dead end. HR takes out his transmogrifier – the wand that can change how a person looks – and transforms himself to look like Iris. Iris transforms into HR. Before Iris can really put up a protest, Killer Frost knocks her out and takes HR thinking he’s Iris.
On the rooftop,
Iris reveals herself to Joe. Joe jumps up, happy to see Iris and holds her tight.
Tracy sees that Barry is holding HR and runs to him. They just found each other and now he’s dying.
HR says he can’t be a coward. That’s why he switched places with Iris. He tells Barry to give Cisco a message. His last words to Barry are “Go stop Savitar.”
RIP HR Wells
Barry and Iris are reunited…alive and well.
In the forest,
Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) has Cisco/Vibe (Carlos Valdes) pinned and is ready to kill him. Savitar stops her. He says he needs Cisco to build something for him.
Barry, Iris, and Joe go to STAR Labs and check the news report. The byline has changed back to Iris West-Allen.
Savitar sees new memories. He knows that Iris is alive. He tells Killer Frost and Cisco that HR took her place. Everything changes for Savitar.
Julian (Tom Felton) returns to STAR labs. The team fills him in on everything that has happened. The future has changed, so what happens to Savitar? Barry explains that saving Iris means he won’t go down a dark path. He won’t create the time remnants and Savitar will never be born. Julian says the time paradox will catch up with Savitar and he will be erased from existence. No one knows when that will happen.
In the meantime, Savitar took the bazooka for a reason. He also needs Caitlin for something. What is Savitar planning?
Julian shows them a vial of blue liquid. It’s experimental gene therapy…cure for Caitlin. It will re-write Caitlin’s meta DNA and bring Caitlin back.
Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale) runs in. He check the forest. Caitlin and Cisco are both gone. Savitar has them.
Savitar has a plan B and it involves the speed force bazooka. He needs Cisco to alter the bazooka to work in a new way. This was a part of Savitar’s plan. He set things in motion so that the team would build the bazooka. He plans to use the bazooka to finish his ascension.
To escape the time paradox, Savitar plans to use the gun to splice himself throughout time. He will rule the universe.
Cisco refuses. Savitar tells him that Julian has returned with a cure. Cisco can save her, but he has to help Savitar first.
Barry sits with Iris and discusses his idea to deal with Savitar. Something Leonard Snart said to him has given him an idea. He says he’s going to do the least expected thing.
Barry meets with Savitar Barry (Gustin). He says he wants to help Savitar escape the time paradox. All he has to do is go to STAR labs with Cisco and Caitlin. Savitar tries to refuse, but Barry uses his favorite memory of his parents to reach the Barry inside. He tells Savitar to come home.
Savitar goes back to STAR Labs with Barry. Joe and Julian are furious. They want to know where Caitlin and Cisco are. Savitar says he will tell them once he see that they can help him.
Iris approaches Savitar. He has a hard time looking at her. She reaches up and touches his face. It’s clear that this version of Barry Allen is in love with her too. Iris says they are going to help him.
Julian reminds him that he has their scientist. Wally reminds them that Tracy built the bazooka, so she might be helpful. Tracy walks in. She says Savitar took away her future. She won’t help him.
Iris call Harry (Cavanagh) to talk to Tracy. Tracy thinks it’s HR at first. Harry explains why he looks like HR.
Tracy says she won’t help HR’s killer. The only reason she helped the team was because of HR.
Harry tells Tracy that HR loved these people. He loved her. That’s why he sacrificed himself. When the time came, he didn’t run. She needs to stay for HR.
Savitar asks Iris and Barry what their plans are for him. How will they integrate him into their lives? Barry says he hasn’t thought that far into his plans. He says they will figure it out together.
Savitar looks at Iris. He remembers loving Iris. He says he can’t stay with them. Iris tells Savitar that she will be there for him through this transition. He reminds her that he tried to kill her. She says none of that matters. There is a way for all of them to get through it.
Iris asks for Cisco and Caitlin’s whereabouts. Savitar says he’ll bring them home. He leaves and an alarm goes off.
There is energy in the breach room. Savitar released the energy from the Philosopher’s Stone. It’s going to blow up. Wally and Barry get everyone out of STAR labs. The lab is destroyed.
Savitar returns to his lair. The bazooka modifications are complete. He tells Killer Frost to kill Cisco. She shoots a blast of cold air his way and nothing happens. Gypsy (Jessica Camacho) shows up and pushes Cisco into a portal. Savitar says it doesn’t matter that they got away.
Cisco and Gypsy land in Barry’s apartment. Gypsy knew he was in trouble because they are connected. The two argue about how ungrateful Cisco is that he’s alive. Barry, Iris, Julian, and Harry watch. Cisco is happy to see them and tells them what Savitar is up to.
Savitar is running out of time. He opens a portal. The time paradox emerges…it’s Black Flash. Killer Frost freezes and destroys him.
Killer Frost uses the bazooka on Savitar. His plan is working. Multiple Savitars appear to be shot back into the portal. The portal rejects him. Flash Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp) emerges from the portal. Team Flash has arrived.
Cisco reveals that the modifications that he made to the bazooka were actually a skeleton key to unlock the speed force.
Killer Frost battles with Vibe and Gypsy. They are able to stop Killer Frost. Cisco gets ready to vibe her, but stops. He gives Killer Frost the cure and a choice to be Caitlin again.
The speedsters, go after Savitar. He pushes them back with a blast and goes after Cisco.
Cisco double crossed him and now he must die. Killer Frost blasts Savitar, saving Cisco.
Flash attacks Savitar. Savitar knocks him down. He tells Flash that he’s going to die and take Wally, Joe and Iris with him.
Flash phases through the suit and pushes Savitar out. The two scuffle and Flash pushes Savitar to his knees…ready to kill him. Savitar says if Flash kills him, Flash becomes Savitar.
Flash doesn’t kill Savitar. He destroys the suit instead. He says he will never let pain and darkness determine who he is. Flash knocks out Savitar.
Flash walks towards his friends. Savitar gets up and runs at Flash. Someone shoots him in the back. It’s Iris. Savitar is dead. He disappears from existence. Iris saved Barry.
The team has a funeral service for HR. For as eccentric as he was, he was helpful in many ways. He believed in Wally when no one else did. HR may not have had many answers. In his own way, he was able to help others find the answers to their questions. And in the end, he saved Iris. HR was truly a hero.
Barry pulls Cisco aside to give him HR’s message. “This took strength and he gave it me.”
Barry, Cisco and Julian see Caitlin standing nearby. They try to talk her into going home. She says she’s not Caitlin anymore. And she’s not Killer Frost. She gives the cure back to Julian. Cisco tries to stop her. She tells him to let her go.
Barry and Iris return home. They talk about their future. Iris shows Barry the save the date cards for their wedding. He delivers the cards in a flash. Barry also gives Iris the engagement ring.
The lights flicker and the ground shakes. Glass shatters and red lighting rains from the sky. Everyone meets at what used to be STAR Labs. Cisco and Wally work to get the computers back online. They see a energy mass over Central City. There’s only one thing that generate that much energy…the Speed Force.
The plan was to put Savitar back in the speed force, but he died. The Speed Force prison needs an occupant or it goes unstable and attacking the earth.
Barry says he has to stabilize it by running into it. He will be trapped in the speed force. Iris asks Cisco if there’s another way. Central City needs the Flash. Barry is ready to leave the city in Wally’s hands.
Barry says his goodbyes to everyone. He asks Harry to stick around.
A portal opens and Barry’s mother emerges. It’s actually the speed force. She says it’s the finish line for The Flash.
Barry explains that he has to pay for Flashpoint.
Barry tells Cisco the team will look to him. Cisco has always been his hero.
Joe tells Barry that he is proud of him.
Barry tells Iris to continue to live her life for him. He says goodbye and enters the Speed Force.
Thoughts…
WOW! From one heartbreak to another. That was emotional. I knew Iris couldn’t be dead, but I didn’t expect HR to make that kind of sacrifice.
It’s been said all season that Barry has to pay for creating Flashpoint. He has made a lot of little mistakes that needed to be answered for since then. So does this mean he will get a fresh start in season 4?
That’s all I want to know. What happens next? How different will everyone be when Barry returns?
Overall the season was interesting. There were moments I felt could have been left out or weren’t resolved like I would have wanted. I did like that Iris saved Barry in the end. The writers need to consider doing so much more with Iris. She’s more than just a pretty face.
And Caitlin…who will she become? It appeared that she found a balance between Caitlin and Killer Frost. Is she gone for good? Will we see her again?
It’s good to Harry back. I mean…there’s has to be a version of Harrison Wells on Team Flash. Will he stay around longer? Will Jesse return soon? Or will we get to see another version?
I’m excited about the possibilities for the show. The Flash returns in Fall 2017.
