Season four of The Flash was jammed packed. Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) got married. Then Barry was framed for murder. He was cleared of all charges and went into battle with the Thinker, Clifford DeVoe (Neil Sandilands). With help from Team Flash, and DeVoe’s wife, they were able to defeat DeVoe and save the world.

The team acquired a new member, Ralph Dibny (Hartley Sawyer), the Elongated Man. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) fell in love with Gypsy (Jessica Camacho), but they couldn’t agree to take the next step in their relationship. Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) returned to the team. She lost Killer Frost, but then discovered that Frostie has been with her since she was a child.  Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) had a baby named Jenna. Cecile also acquired the ability to read minds.

Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) and Jessie Quick (Violett Beane) broke up. Wally went on a quest to find his place in this world and ended up with the Legends.  He came home to meet his new baby sister. Harry Wells (Tom Cavanagh) from Earth 2 joined the team after Jessie kicked him off her team. He lost his intelligence, but gained empathy. The team was able to reverse his intelligence loss so Harry returned to his Earth and his daughter. And a mystery girl showed up here and there, bumping into every member of Team Flash, except Iris. In the season finale, we learned her name is Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy). And she’s Barry and Iris’ daughter.

Hi, I’m Your Daughter

At the end of season four, Nora helped The Flash destroy the STAR Labs satellite that was falling to earth. Barry saw her, but didn’t know who she was. The next day, Nora shows up at Joe’s house, claiming to be the daughter of Barry and Iris West-Allen. She knows who every member of the team is, including Jenna. She tells everyone that her hero name is XS. Iris gave her the name. She used to say Nora always did everything in excess.

The Flash

Nora tells the team that when she helped Barry destroy the STAR Labs satellite, it took away her speed. Now she can’t run fast enough to open the speed force. And Team Flash are the only ones who can help her get back to her time. Baby Jenna starts to cry. Cecile says the baby said she’s hungry. Yep. Cecile can still read minds.

The team takes Nora to STAR labs to runs some tests. Barry is worried about the timeline. Anything she says could mess up the futures. Even if she killed a butterfly, she could completely alter something. He wants to send her back to her time as soon as possible. Iris is in awe of her. She knows that’s their daughter because her speed lightning is yellow like Barry’s and purple like hers. Iris doesn’t want to send her back just yet.

Cisco and Caitlin conduct tests on Nora and take a sample of her blood. Cisco is still drunk, so he’s almost useless. They find that Nora’s DNA is similar to Barry and Iris. She has the Speed Force signature, but very little speed. Barry asks Wally to take Nora’s DNA reading to the Legends for a better analysis. If worst come to worst, maybe they can use the wave rider to get Nora back to her time.

Back To Work

Barry is back at the CCPD. Captain Singh (Patrick Sabongui) welcomes Barry back with boxes and boxes of cases for Barry to work on. Nora shows up unexpectedly and wants to help. She is also a forensic scientist, just like Barry. She looks at a case and they start talking about sciency things. That conversation turns to talk about ice cream. They have the same favorite ice cream. Two scoops of cookie dough ice cream with extra sprinkles at the Mason Family ice cream shoppe in Happy Harbor, Rhode Island. Barry recognizes that Nora is good at forensics, but reminds her to be responsible about the timeline.

Barry gets a call about a meta attack. He starts to run away, but he doesn’t have a suit. His suit was tore up when he destroyed the satellite. Nora runs and gets an old suit from Cisco’s closet. Barry leaves to change, telling Nora to stay where she is.

The meta is robbing an armored vehicle. The Flash gets there and lightning punches the meta, knocking him back. Barry runs to save the two guards that were thrown into the air and while he’s talking to them the meta gets up. Nora shows up to watch the Flash in action, causing him to get distracted. The meta punches the Flash up into the air and he lands in the river. The meta gets away.

Altering Time

They go back to STAR Labs and Nora feels really bad for what happened to Barry. She says the meta is called Gridlock (Daniel Cudmore) and the Flash was supposed to easily stop him, but that didn’t happened. Meaning the timeline has been changed. They ask how she knows this. She says there is a list of defeated villains in chronological order at the Flash museum. Barry takes it easy on Nora, saying he’s made plenty of mistakes. But the longer she stays the more things might get messed up. They really need to get her home.

Caitlin suggest they use the Tachyon absorption enhancer that Thawne used to increase his speed. They could use it to boost the speed force in Nora’s cells. Barry says they need to concentrate on two things, getting Nora home and finding Gridlock. Ralph comes in saying he’s got something really important to tell them. He discovered there are many universes out there…but then again, the team already knew that. And it’s the Multiverse.

Mommy And Me

The team decides to split up, so Iris takes Nora to Jitters for coffee. She tries talking, but Nora is really uncomfortable with Iris and asks when Barry will be back. Iris really wants to get to know Nora so she starts asking questions about her life. The only thing Nora reveals is that she is a CSI like Barry and she’s ready to go back to STAR Labs.

Barry returns to the lab and Nora is fangirling over the Flash’s adventures. They have to stop her from talking so she doesn’t reveal too much. Cisco and Caitlin put the Tachyon enhancer on Nora and they prepare for her to run. Barry puts on an old suit that is a little tight and smells.

Nora says goodbye to everyone. Iris apologizes for not being able to spend more time together, but Nora snaps back that they spend their whole lives together. Nora turns and hugs Barry really tight. Cisco opens the door to the track and they start running. Wally returns, telling them to stop Nora and Barry. It’s too late though. They have opened a portal to the speed force, but Nora and Barry are pushed back when they try to run into the portal.

Tachyons

They wake up in the medical bay where Wally tells them what he found. He had Gideon scan Nora’s blood sample. She has negative Taychons in her cells that is slowing her down. Her body is saturated with them, keeping her from entering the speed force. And if the negative Tachyons get anywhere near the Wave Rider, the reaction will vaporize the ship. Cisco says they might be able to offset the enhancer to negate the reaction.

The news reports another hit by Gridlock. Barry asks how they missed Gridlock’s movement. With the STAR Labs satellites down, they are no longer able to scan for dark matter or use facial recognition scanners. This puts them one step behind the metas. Barry leaves to work on the Tachyon problem and sends everyone else to investigate Gridlock.

At the crime scene, Ralph says no one is talking about Gridlock. It’s like they are scared. Ralph says they need Killer Frost to jog their memories. Caitlin tells him that Killer Frost is gone, but she’s trying to get her back. She tells him about the memory she had of seeing Killer Frost in the mirror when they were children. She says her dad was there with her, but he’s been dead for years. Cisco finds a dark matter signature. Gridlock is absorbing dark matter with each movement. He could become unstoppable.

The First Time

Iris checks on Barry. She doesn’t understand why he wants to send Nora back when he and Nora obviously have a strong connection. Barry says Nora poses a great danger to the timeline. She can’t stop talking about the future. Iris knows Barry better than that. He’s travels through time here and there, knowing the risk to the timeline. But Nora is doing the same thing and now Barry is worried about the timeline.

Barry wanted to experience having a child in the natural order it’s supposed to happen. Having her there now means they are missing all of her firsts. Iris says they can still have those first, just out of order. Barry says his whole life has been out of order. He wanted life to give them one normal thing and now they lost that.  Iris says they are gaining something in return. When the time comes, they will have those firsts. And they will be the best parents ever. Right now, they have a kid who defied the laws of physics to hang out with her parents. Barry starts to say something about Nora growing up with two parents, but stops.

25 Years

He leaves to find Nora in Cisco’s lab looking a picture of Team Flash. He asks what happened to him. Nora said something about spending her whole life with Iris, but not Barry. Why? They go to look at the headline about the Flash’s disappearance. He asks how long he was missing. Nora shows him another headline from 25 years after the first headline. She says he never came back.

Nora was born a few years before the Flash disappeared. So she has no memories of him. That’s why she started coming back in time. She met him for the first time at his wedding. Barry knows that Nora is not stuck in the past. She used a device that registers negative Tachyons to fool the team. If they knew she had her speed, they would have sent her home that first day. She admits that she doesn’t know how to use her powers. She can’t even phase. Barry asks if Iris is okay. She is still alive. Nora grew up with just her mother. Barry gets sad. He was scared to miss out on all of Nora’s firsts as a child. Turns out he was never there anyway.

Gridlock

Caitlin and Cisco fill Barry in on Gridlock’s situation. Gridlock’s real name is William Lang and yes, Cisco did name him Gridlock. They have no way of finding him. Cisco says they can easily track his cell phone. (How do they have his number?) And they find him at the airport, getting on a plane. He plans to crash the plane.

Gridlock’s target is a man with a briefcase handcuffed to him. Gridlock thinks there’s something valuable in the briefcase. He puts his hand on the man’s chest, sending an electrical current through the guy. The current cause the plane’s system to fail and the plane begins to descend.

The team gets a notification of the plane going down. They try to think quickly about how to stop it and detain Gridlock. Nora tells them about a time when the Flash phased a plane through buildings. Barry is worried that he’s not powerful enough. If Wally and Nora help him, they could do it. There’s just one thing missing…The Flash’s suit. Nora hands him a ring she got from the Flash museum. Barry releases a new suit that was made by Ryan Choi. Cisco is impressed.

Phase To Save

They have about 10 second in G force when Gridlock will have no powers. But they need Cisco to vibe them in. He’s still hung over. Cisco vibes to a rooftop where he can see the plane. The three speedsters run up the building and are vibed into a breach into the plane.  The Flash grabs Gridlock, putting power dampening cuffs on him. Kid Flash hits Gridlock, knocking him out. XS is worried that she won’t be able to phase with the Flash and Kid Flash. The Flash tells her the same thing that Harrison Wells told him the first time he phased. The three speedsters phase the plane through buildings and into the Central City river, saving everyone. Barry got to see Nora’s first phase.

Everyone goes back to the lab and watch the news of Gridlock being sent away. Cisco and Caitlin built a new Tachyon enhancer for Nora to reverse the effect of the negative Tachyons in her DNA so she can go home. Barry says to put a hold on that. He doesn’t want to send Nora back without making sure she knows how to use her powers. Iris is happy and says Nora needs a place to stay. Nora says she will stay in the lounge. What lounge?

Secret Hiding Place

They go to a secret lounge and find Joe; it’s his secret hiding place. He’s happy to share the space with Nora. Joe asks if Wally is plan on leaving, and he says no.  Joe reminds Wally that he set out to do something for himself. He should go back and find whatever it is he’s looking for. Joe and the team love Wally and will be waiting for him to come home when he’s ready.

Barry and Iris watch from the balcony. Iris starts tearing up. She thought she lost her chance to connect with Nora and now she has a second chance. Iris says this means they will get their happy ending. Barry doesn’t tell her what Nora showed him.

Cisco and Caitlin are looking at the appliances in the kitchen of the lounge. Ralph comes in with an envelope for Caitlin. It’s a copy of her father’s death certificate. Ralph says the coroner who signed the certificate doesn’t exist. It’s a fake.

Iris and Barry set up a bed for Nora. She says she not tired. Barry suggest they make a run for get ice cream. Iris watches them go, but she appears to be a little bothered. Nora and Barry run side by side and Nora narrates. She says she wants to stop the Flash from disappearing.

The Bad Guy

Elsewhere, the police are transporting Gridlock to a secure location when someone stops them with a lightning bolt. A mysterious man steps up to Gridlock. Gridlock asks what he wants. The mysterious man says he wants Gridlock to die.

Thoughts

There’s always so much risk in time travelling for Barry and his team. Yeah he takes little trips here and there. Like Wally said, some minimal changes can be made without totally disrupting history. But Nora plans on saving the Flash. That’s the same thing Barry did when he saved his mom, creating Flashpoint. This is not going to end well.

Iris’ storyline is going to be the best of the series. Nothing has been able to come between Barry and Iris since they figured out that they love each other. And I honestly didn’t think there was anything that could test Iris’ strength and confidence. But I was wrong. The bond between Nora and Barry is so strong. I just hope Barry recognizes soon what that relationship is doing to Iris. Or he could lose her.

It’s a new season and it’s already exciting!  Until next week!
