Crossover week began Monday night when Barry Allen and Cisco Ramon created a rip in the space-time continuum to cross over into Kara Danver’s world on Supergirl. The story continues as The Flash assemble a super team to fight off alien invaders.
So much happened in this one episode. This is a long post! Spoilers ahead…and…GO!
Our story begins as the Green Arrow and The Flash take cover from someone shooting at them. Arrow blames The Flash for getting them in this predicament. They prepare to face their foes, and someone shoots at them with heat vision. They come out of hiding to face, Speedy, Spartan, Heatwave, White Canary, Firestorm, Atom, and Supergirl.
Flashback to how we got to this point….10 hours ago…
Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) are testing Wally’s (Keiynan Lonsdale)speed. Cisco is very excited about Wally’s progress. Joe (Jesse L. Martin) is amazed, but Iris (Candice Patton) is not. Wally has only been a speedster for a few days. Iris doesn’t want Wally to think that he is like Barry. Caitlin tells Iris that Wally wanted his powers. They won’t be able to convince Wally to not use his powers. Iris wants to keep Wally safe. She asks Caitlin and Cisco to not tell him how well he is doing, not to train him or to talk about a suit. When Wally stops, Caitlin tells him they need to run more tests.
HR (Tom Cavanagh) has a proposal for Cisco, Caitlin and Barry to open STAR labs to the public. The team isn’t too keen about his idea and dismisses HR’s idea. A satellite signal goes off indicating that a meteor headed straight for Central City. Barry rushes off to investigate.
Barry arrives at the crash site to find a space ship. The ship blast open the door, knocking Barry back. Aliens rush out of the ship.
Lyla Michaels (Audrey Marie Anderson) and A.R.G.U.S. is investigating the crash site . Barry meets her, but she doesn’t want to talk in front of the other investigators.
At Star Labs, Lyla tells the team that the alien are the Dominators. They first appeared on Earth in 1951, kidnapped a few people and then left. There has been on contact since then. A.R.G.U.S. received a message a few months ago from the Dominators. The message said that the Dominators were on a mission of understanding and they warned the humans not to attack. Lyla tells them that they spotted four ships headed for Earth. The Dominators have ignored all attempts of communication and are sending in teams to get Intel to find a weakness. She asks Team Flash to let the government will handle the situation
After Lyla leaves, Wally asks if they are really going to just sit this one out. Iris reminds Barry that he cannot face the Dominators alone. Barry says he doesn’t plan to.
In Star City, Arrow and Spartan are facing off with the Vigilante. Barry arrives just in time to speed them to the safety of Felicity’s (Emily Bett Rickards) apartment. Barry tells Team Arrow about the alien situation in Central City. Thea arrives and she is ready to come out of retirement to help fight the aliens. They will need more help. Time to call the Legends.
Team Arrow sends a message to the Legends. They arrive right on time.
Cisco is still very upset with Barry and isn’t afraid to show it. He reminds Barry that the only reason he is helping is because of the alien situation.Barry and Cisco create a rip in the time space continuum to go to Earth 38 to recruit Supergirl.
Replay of the last scene on Supergirl where Barry and Cisco arrive in National City and Barry calls in a favor from Kara.
Team Arrow and Team Legends are waiting for Team Flash. Barry and Cisco return with Supergirl. And in the excited words of Felicity Smoak,
“BEST TEAM UP EVER!!”
Elsewhere…
The Dominators are setting up a device in an abandoned building. The alien leader demands that the human leader be brought to him.
Supergirl is memorizing everyone’s names and superhero names. The team consists of:
Barry a.k.a. The Flash (Grant Gustin)
Oliver a.k.a. Green Arrow (Stephen Amnell)
Dig a.k.a. Spartan (David Ramsey)
Thea a.k.a. Speedy (Willa Holland)
Sara a.k.a. White Canary (Caity Lotz)
Professor Stein (Victor Garber) and Jax (Franz Drameh) a.k.a. Firestorm
Ray a.k.a. The Atom (Brandon Routh)
Mick a.k.a. Heatwave (Dominic Purcell)
And Kara a.k.a. Supergirl (Melissa Benoist)
Kara confirms that Caitlin will not be using her cold powers this time around. And Iris confirms that Oliver is the Green Arrow. A fact that she didn’t know and that makes Oliver so much hotter than before.
Barry starts to catch everyone up on what they know about the Dominators. Kara already knew about them. She said they came to her planet, ran some experiments on people and kill a lot more people. Kara says the Dominators are super strong.
Oliver suggests that they start training by going up against Kara. Mick and Jax says they need to know who’s in charge. Cisco immediately nominates Oliver, but Oliver concedes to Barry.
Oliver lets Kara know immediately that he is skeptical of her. He tells her not to hold back, especially against him. Barry tells Kara that Oliver will eventually warm up to her.
Ray has a new suit…”Old West, Dwarf Star, plus replicator equals a new suit.” He is showing Cisco and Cisco is ready to do an upgrade. Barry joins them. Cisco leaves. Barry asks Ray about Leonard Snart. Ray tells him that Snart sacrificed himself to save the team. Ray says he died a hero.
Wally shows up at the hanger and wants to help. Iris sends him away telling him he’s not ready. Wally speeds away in anger.
Felicity ask Cisco why he’s mad at Barry. Cisco says his brother is dead because Barry changed the timeline. And now there’s nothing Barry can do to change how Cisco feels.
Jax and Stein found a message on their ship from future Barry. The message was for Rip Hunter, the deceased captain of the Legend’s ship. Future Barry says there is a war coming that Hunter will be called to fight in. When Hunter returns, he will be in a new timeline. Future Barry tells Hunter that he altered the timeline and everyone’s lives will be affected. Hunter cannot trust anyone when he returns.
Barry fesses up that he went back in time to save his mom. He tells them about Flashpoint and how he tried to reset the timeline. He wanted to put things back the way it used to be but it didn’t work.
Stein asks what has changed. Caitlin’s powers, Cisco’s brother is dead, and John had a daughter in the other timeline. He says he didn’t just screw up his life, but everyone’s life including their futures. Jax says that they have to tell the rest of the team. Oliver says they can’t tell the team just yet. Barry made a mistake, it’s part of the job. They will have to deal with it later.
Stein gets up to leave and sees a vision of a young woman. Caitlin walks him to see him disoriented. He asks her to take him home.
Lyla and her superiors are meeting with the President to decide how to handle the situation. He doesn’t want to wait around and do nothing. Lyla says that’s what the Dominators want. Some old guy reminds the President what happened the last time. The President orders everyone to move against the aliens. The Dominators attack the President’s convoy and take him hostage.
Wally is pouting because Iris made him leave the team. He says no one in his family wants him to have powers. He saw his results and knows he is fine. Iris says that she is trying to protect him. Wally knows that Iris doesn’t want him to train, but he doesn’t know why. He reminds her that in Flashpoint, they were a team. He says it sucks that she doesn’t have the same faith in him now.
HR is eavesdropping on their conversation. Wally says HR is the only one who will tell him the truth. He says they are treated the same. No one shows either of them any respect. HR says he is trying to earn their respect. Wally asks HR to train him. HR tells Wally that the team will get rid of him if he helps Wally. Wally says he wants to help people, just like HR. HR says no.
Caitlin and Prof Stein are talking about Killer Frost. She is scared that Killer Frost will come back and Caitlin can’t get rid of her. Stein tells her he will be there for her. They get to the door of his house. The girl from Stein’s vision opens the door. It’s his daughter. He hugs her, but leaves immediately.
Cisco is looking for something. He finds the recording from future Barry and listens. He takes it to Barry and asks if Barry is going to tell the team. He says he will after their mission is complete. The team hears Cisco scolding Barry about keeping secrets.
Barry tells the team that future Barry said present Barry cannot be trusted. He tells them that he changed the timeline and their lives have been affected. Arrow tells John that he had a daughter instead of a son in the other timeline. Everyone gets upset with Barry. John, Sarah, and Ray all scold Barry for changing things. They are all upset that Barry has that ability and he did it without thinking how it would affect everyone else.
They are interrupted by a message that the President has been kidnapped. Barry tells them to go. Kara says she will always trust him. Arrow says he isn’t going without Barry. John tells Arrow to stay behind. Kara agrees to go with the group. Barry and Oliver stay behind.
The team track the President to the abandoned building that the Dominators took over. Kara confirms that he is there. Mick asks how she knows that. Kara can see him in a warehouse with her x-ray vision. Mick tells Kara that he won’t call her Supergirl because it’s stupid. Kara won’t work either. She asks what he will say when he needs help. He’s gonna call her “Skirt.” And he won’t need her help.
When the set foot in the building, the Dominators communicate with them telepathically. They say they knew the team would show up. Kara tries to reason with them. They disintegrate the President. He wasn’t the one they really wanted. It’s a trap. An alien hits button on a large device that affects everyone in the room. Mick calls out for “Supergirl” to do something.
Barry and Oliver are looking at a news article from the future about the Flash disappearing. It was written by Iris West Allen, but something has changed about Barry and Iris’ future.
Oliver tells him he needs to stop feeling bad for changing things. He says there isn’t one person in the world who wouldn’t do the same thing that Barry did. Oliver would change things if he could. He would bring back his parents if he could. Oliver says the world isn’t different because he changed the timeline. Change happens.
Cisco radios them saying they need them. Barry turns on the video screen. The rest the team are reeking havoc on Central City. Flash and Arrow meet the rest of the team and they are attacked. They have to take cover.
(Replay of the opening scene.)
Barry creates a vortex to fight off Firestorm, Atom and Supergirl.
Arrow is fighting Spartan, White Canary and Speedy.
The West family arrives in the lab to see that the team has turned on each other. Wally races off to help. Wally uses his speed to knock everyone down. Wally smiles at Barry and calls himself Kid Flash. Supergirl flies at Wally, knocking him out. Wally is hurt, but they need to move.
Cisco and Felicity work together to find the mind control device. They find it and tell Barry where to find it. Barry races Supergirl to find the device and turn it off. Arrow takes Wally to safety, running from the team. Oliver is out of Arrows. He engages in hand to hand combat with White Canary.
Barry stands right in front of the mind control device. Supergirl hits it and destroys it. Everyone is back to normal.
Wally is okay. Iris is happy he’s okay, but tells him not to do that again.
HR tells Wally that they don’t see his potential. He changes his mind and tells Wally that he will train him.
The team reassemble outside and discuss their next move. Ray tells Barry that despite the message, they trust him. Oliver says they need to call Lyla and tell her that the Dominators are not peaceful.
Some kind of ray shoots down from the sky and Sarah disappears. John and Thea are taken next. Barry tells everyone to get inside. The aliens take Ray next, then Oliver. Barry tries to push Oliver out of the ray, but he’s not fast enough.
FIRST OF ALL…
REWIND….
If someone only watches The Flash, they would totally miss the point of some of characters and their relationships. So let’s back up and explain how everyone is connected.
The entire CW Superhero Franchise began with Arrow. Team Arrow consists of Oliver Queen, his sister Thea, Felicity Smoak and John Diggle. They recently added four new members, Evelyn Sharp a.k.a. Artemis, Rene Ramierz a.k.a. Wild Dog, Curtis Holt a.k.a. Mr. Terrific, and Rory Regan a.k.a. Ragman.
Next was The Flash. Team Flash consists of Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash, Cisco Ramon a.k.a. Vibe, Caitlin Snow a.k.a Killer Frost, Iris West, Joe West, Wally West a.k.a. Kid Flash and different variations of Harrison Wells.
The Legends of Tomorrow was next. Their team is Sarah Lance a.k.a. White Canary, Professor Martin Stein and Jefferson “Jax” Jackson, together they are Firestorm, Ray Palmer a.k.a. The Atom, Mick Rory a.k.a. Heatwave, and new members Nate Haywood a.k.a. Steel and Amaya Jiwe a.k.a. Vixen. They had other members including Captain Rip Hunter, Leonard Snart a.k.a. Captain Cold. I’m pretty sure we will see these two again sometime soon. There was also Carter Hall a.k.a. The Hawkman and Kendra Saunders a.k.a. Hawkgirl.
Team Arrow have had a lots of ups and down, including the death of team member Black Canary, Laurel Lance. Laurel is also the sister to Sara Lance, the White Canary. Sara was once Oliver’s mistress. The two were lost at sea. Oliver went on to become the Arrow. Sarah was taken in by the League of Assassins. She has been killed and brought back to life. She joined Team Legend shortly before Laurel’s death.
Thea Queen received her power when she died and came back to life with super strength, agility and speed. She took over a spot and costume on Team Arrow after Arsenal, Roy Harper had to leave town. Thea’s father is Malcolm Merlyn, the Dark Arrow. Malcolm crosses the line between good and evil quite a bit.
Felicity used to date Ray Palmer before she got engaged to Oliver.
Ray Palmer used to own a company call Palmer Tech that used to be Queen Industries. Felicity worked for him and she used to date Ray. He created his atom suit at Palmer Tech. The company was taken over and Ray left to become a Legend. He had to destroy his atom suit when it fell into the wrong hands. He’s been pretty lost since then; unsure of his place on Team Legends. Mick gave Leonard Snart’s cold gun to Ray, giving him a purpose on the team. And now he has his Atom suit back!
When Barry discovered his speed, he got help from Oliver to control it and used it to fight crime. Barry and Felicity became really good friends and collaborators. Cisco has also shown up in Star City to collaborate with Felicity a few times.
Mick Rory, Heatwave, and Leonard Snart, Captain Cold, used to be thieves. Snart created a cold gun that Flash destroyed. He forced Cisco to make a new gun for him. Cisco also made Mick’s flame gun and a gold gun for Snart’s sister, Lisa a.k.a. Golden Glider. Mick and Leonard were recruited and reluctantly joined the Legends team. Leonard was killed in an explosion in Season 2.
In Season 1 of the Flash the big reveal was that the first Harrison Wells was actually the Reverse Flash. Barry defeated and killed the Reverse Flash after he found out that he killed Barry’s mother.
In Season 2, a portal to Earth 2 opened up and the second Harrison Wells showed up. This version was a real Harrison Wells and he was very stern. He also had a daughter, Jesse. Jesse and Wally were affected by a second particle accelerator explosion that was recreated so Barry could get his powers back. Jesse recently became Jesse Quick, a speedster.
The Season 2 villain, Zoom terrorized Barry to the point of killing Barry’s father. It was this event that made Barry go back in time to save his mother from the Reverse Flash. That created Flashpoint.
Zoom was from Earth 2, where Cisco was known as Reverb, Caitlin was Killer Frost, and Caitlin’s deceased fiancee, Ronnie Raymond was still alive.
Speaking of Ronnie… Everyone thought that Ronnie was killed in the particle explosion. Professor Martin Stein was close by when the explosion occurred, causing Ronnie to merge with him. The two could not survive without the other. Team Flash found a way for them to exist separately with a splicer. This worked until Ronnie was really killed while trying to destroy a wormhole.
Professor Stein’s health began to deteriorate. The only solution was to find a replacement for Ronnie. Jefferson “Jax” Jackson was a former football star that was hit by the particle accelerator explosion. Caitlin talked Jax into joining with Stein to save his life. The two were later recruited by Team Legend. Initially, Jax did not want to go. Stein had to kidnap Jax to make him go.
Barry sped his way onto Earth 38 in Season 1 of Supergirl. He wasn’t sure how it happened. It took the whole episode to figure out that he needed to combine his powers with Supergirl’s in order to get back to his Earth. While there, Barry helped Supergirl defeat a couple of menacing villains in National City.
Ok…that’s pretty much the jist of it. So much more has happened in all four shows. I highly suggest everyone check out all four series.
THOUGHTS…
The introduction of each team to Supergirl was fun! It’s like getting all of your groups of friends in one room and watching them all get along and like each other! I loved it.
I didn’t know that Iris didn’t know that Oliver was the Green Arrow. Her reaction was pretty standard…he is pretty hot.
Mick was hilarious when he refused to call Kara, Supergirl. He wanted to call her Skirt instead. Hahahaha!
There was so much action going on. It was exciting to see the heroes fighting each other. A true test of strength for the group.
