The Flash returns to the CW tonight with the first of four final episodes of season 5. And not much has changed since we last saw Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and the gang. Barry is still losing his speedster powers. Iris (Candice Patton) is still stuck in the mirror-verse. Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) is still looking for Sue Dearbon (Natalie Dreyfuss). Let’s back up a bit and review how we got here.
After the Crisis, Barry was having some issues with his powers. He emitted lightning when he didn’t mean to, was having a hard time healing after a run, and even tripped a couple of times. Wally West/Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale) returned to Central City after experiencing some issues with the Speed Force himself. They found out that when Barry accepted the Spectre powers during Crisis, he infected the Speed Force. And now it’s dead. Meaning Barry and Wally will eventually lose all of their speedster powers.
Iris started investigating a secret organization know as Black Hole. She traced the group to a man named Joseph Carver (Eric Nenniger), CEO of McCulloch Technologies. While investigating, Iris was pulled into a mirror, trapping her in the mirror-verse with Eva McCulloch (Efrat Dor), Carver’s dead wife. A mirror image of Iris was left in the real world and is controlled by Eva. Recently Kamilla was pulled in and now their doppelgängers are working double time for Eva.
It’s not clear what Eva is trying to do. She has Iris and Kamilla searching for items for whatever she’s building. She is very hurt by Joseph’s ability to move on from her disappearance. The Real Iris is empathetic, but she’s starting to become suspicious. What’s really unfortunate is that the Flash hasn’t noticed anything wrong.
Ralph has been searching for Sue Dearbon since last season. He would get leads here and there, but every lead was a dead end. Until Sue showed up in Central City. And she’s not in as much danger as Ralph originally though. Actually, Sue is the danger. She’s living a double life as the good girl that Ralph thinks she is and a skilled thief. Sue gave Ralph the slip and he continued his pursuit of her.
In the return episode, Rag Doll (Troy James) returns to torment Cecile (Danielle Nicolet). Black Hole hires Rag Doll to kill Joe West (Jesse L. Martin). With the Flash’s powers disappearing, can he save both Joe and Cecile? And it looks like Eva is onto Flash’s predicament and orders Mirror Iris to drain the Flash of his powers.
BLACK HOLE THREATENS JOE’S LIFE — After Black Hole hires Rag Doll to kill Joe, Singh (guest star Patrick Sabongui) suggests he go into Witness Protection but Joe refuses to stop investigating Carver. While investigating Carver with Cisco, Ralph runs into Sue. Iris becomes suspicious of Eva.
The Flash returns to the CW tonight, Tuesday, April 21.
