The Flash has his hands full with Godspeeds tearing up Central City. In “Heart of the Matter, Part 2,” The Flash (Grant Gustin) and his team pull out all the stops to defeat Godspeed to save the City. Joe (Jesse L. Martin) learns something new about Kristen Kramer (Carmen Moore).
Last week, the civil war between the Godspeed clones intensified when they went after Barry’s son Bart/Impulse (Jordan Fisher). Now he’s in a coma. Barry is in August Heart , aka Godspeed’s (Karan Oberoi) head and finds out that the evil speedster wants organic speed. Or he will destroy the world. Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) pleads with Barry to give August the organic speed so Bart will be okay. Iris (Candice Patton) agrees with Barry that giving August organic speed is not a good idea. Jay (John Wesley Shipp) says they have to come up with another idea to stop the Godspeed war.
Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) talks to August about what Barry found out. August is worried about being a monster and feels like he doesn’t have a choice. She feels like August is a good man and that he won’t become a villain. All of this based on the sorrow she feels coming from August.
Chester P. Runk (Brandon McKnight) tries to reach out to Allegra again. He says Allegra cannot take responsibility for Esperanza’s choices. And by not joining her cousin, Allegra saved the Flash’s life. When Godspeed broke out of the pipeline, he attacked Flash, ready to kill him. Allegra is the one who stopped Godspeed. Barry is trying to stop a war, whereas Esperanza was trying to start on. That cheers up Allegra and she rejoins the team.
Barry comes up with a plan that involves the Speed Force/Nora (Michelle Harrison). They believe if the Speed Force charges up the speedsters, they can outrun the Godspeeds and stop them. She has the capability to also charge up Iris, who was once a speedster. And she is able to speed up Bart’s healing process so he can join the family in the fight. Bart is super happy to see Jay Garrick. Oh and Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) painted his nails.
Meanwhile Cisco, now known as Mecha-Vibe and Frost (Panabaker) are trying their best to hold off the Godspeeds, but there are so many of them fighting each other. Joe and Kristen are caught in the crossfire and Joe is almost attacked. Something inside Kristen lights up and she runs super fast to save Joe. She’s a meta! She passes out after she uses her abilities for the first time.
Bart grabs the attention of the Godspeeds as the speedster family catches up to face them. Everyone takes a shot at the Godspeeds. Bart throws lightning stars. Nora uses a lightning lasso. Jay uses his helmet. Speed Force Nora just snaps her fingers and the Godspeeds fall over. Barry throws his lightning and Iris swirls her arms to create speed tornadoes. It looks like the plan worked, until all of the speedsters lose power.
The Godspeeds get up, fully recharged. They are feeding off of Speed Force Nora and draining the rest of the Speedsters. Flash tells Speed Force Nora to leave so they Godspeeds won’t get any stronger. Allegra teleports in with the device that neutralizes artificially created kinetic energy sources or S.E.E. She powers it up with her electromagnetic beams and blasts the Godspeeds. Team Flash regroups, but it’s only a matter of minutes before the Godspeeds power up again. They retreat to STAR Labs. Everyone looks to Barry for guidance.
Nora asks Barry to give the organic speed to August. He declines, saying he and Iris are her and Bart’s parents. It’s their job to protect their children. Bart reminds him that Central City doesn’t need parents. It needs superheroes. Nora, Bart, and Jay reconstruct the S.E.E. device, but Chester won’t be able to get it working for a couple of days.
Barry informs the kids that he changed his mind. He will give August the organic speed. He changed his mind because his kids’ future starts now. Iris went back to the Speed Force with SF Nora. They put a device on August and explain that his artificial speed cells are dormant. A speed boost from Barry will give him speed and restore his memories. August is a little worried about who he will be and promises Cecile that he will change.
Bart is concerned because if Dad’s plan works, they are creating the future. But it will all be different. August says he knows Barry’s reasons are important and he hopes it works out. Barry gives August the booster and the power of the speed is electrifying. Cecile can feel August change. He becomes the villain Godspeed.
Barry tells the kids to stay in the lab. He and Iris have a plan. After August fully transforms, he absorbs the other Godspeeds. Instead of Bart, Godspeed goes after Flash. Flash wants to put him in Iron Heights, so Godspeed runs away. Meanwhile Iris is helping Speed Force Nora with a special task.
Flash and Godspeed fight and Godspeed is really powerful. He prepares to kill Barry. Bart tries to run to his father, but Jay stops him. He says Barry has a reason for telling Bart to stand down. It’s time to take their hats off. Bart is upset, but he listens to Jay. Godspeed begins to blast Flash with his absorbing power and someone blasts him from behind. When Chester and Cecile look at the control screen, the name Reverse Flash comes up. Thawne (Tom Cavanagh) saves Barry.
Flash brought Thawne back to help take down Godspeed. The two create lightning sabers to fight Godspeed. (kind of like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker fighting Count Dooku). Godspeed is powerful, but Flash and Thawne defeat him. Thawne stabs Godspeed, but August is not dead. Flash doesn’t like it, but Thawne doesn’t care.
Now that Godspeed is defeated, Thawne quickly turns on Flash. Flash tells Thawne to walk away while he can. Thawne believes Barry is too weak to stop him. He throws a punch at Barry, but Barry grabs his hand and throws him to the side. Thawne is upset that Barry is faster than him. He runs away, promising to get faster than Flash.
August Heart is in Iron Heights. Speed Force Nora erased his memories about who the Flash is. Everyone questions why Barry brought back Thawne. It basically comes down to the fact that Thawne doesn’t want anyone else to kill Flash. So he’s still out there, but Team Flash will deal with him later. This chapter … for now … is over.
Before the season ends, Barry tells Iris that he was scared that he almost lost Iris. He started thinking and Iris never got the wedding she deserves. He promised himself to make that up to her. Barry gets on one knee and asks Iris to renew their vows.
The ceremony is at Joe’s house. Kristen shows up to let Joe know that she’s okay. Her meta test was positive, but she’s not a speedster. She can mimic meta powers when she needs them. She decides to take an indefinite leave of absence to reevaluate her life.
Frost and Caitlin go to the wedding together, despite Caitlin feeling weird about it. She thought Frost would go with Mark, but Mark disappeared on Frost after kissing her. Jerk. Once inside, Jay and Dr. Joan talk about renewing their vows. Cecile makes it clear to Joe that she loves weddings.
Newly online ordained Cisco officiates the wedding. Before they get started, Bart sings a song for his parents that makes Iris cry. He definitely inherited Barry’s wonderful singing voice … actually Bart is a better singer. After he serenades the couple, they say their vows in front of their friends and family. It’s a heartwarming scene to end season seven. When Barry kisses his bride, he initiates Flash Time, so the moment will last forever.
