When Mom and Dad’s away, the kids will play on The Flash. In “Rayo de Luz” Allegra (Kayla Compton) tries to mend things with her cousin and Black Hole assassin UltraViolet (Alexa Barajas). And Joe (Jesse L. Martin) confronts Kristen Kramer (Carmen Moore) about her past.
Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) take a long overdue vacation. They’re trying to start a family, so they need some alone time. While they’re gone, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) holds down the fort. Frost (Panabaker) goes “shopping.” Allegra chases a “news story.” And Chester P. Runk (Brandon McKnight) plays Dungeons and Dragons with the guys from Jitters.
Joe found a soldier who served under Kramer and found out that she led a platoon of soldiers into a trap. He thinks Kramer may have been working with the enemy and decides to confront her. Interestingly enough, Kramer is now the interim captain of the CCPD. Joe shows her the file first to give her a chance to come clean about what happened. Instead, she gets angry and threatens to arrest Joe.
Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) is upset that Kramer was so disrespectful. Joe is just worried about the officers at the CCPD. They’re like his other kids and now they might be in danger. Kramer asks Joe to meet her. Cecile doesn’t like it, but tells him to trust his heart on this one.
WHAT WOULD THE FLASH DO?
Allegra entrusts Chester with a secret. She is trying to track down her cousin Esperanza/UltraViolet because she feels guilty. Allegra thinks she needs to save Esperanza because she basically abandoned her. They were actually really close at one time.
UltraViolet shows up in Central City and attacks Allegra and Chester at Jitters. She tells her prima to stop following her. Sue Dearbon (Natalie Dreyfuss) shows up to save them, and tells Allegra to let UltraViolet go. Sue came back to town a couple of episodes ago and she’s been hanging around because she heard a Black Hole assassin was in Central City. And it’s a good thing too because Allegra still doesn’t know how to use her powers.
Caitlin sees her point and suggests that they let UltraViolet go. But the flashy villain is out to kill someone, so Team Flash is obligated to stop her. Sue is in to help, but warns Allegra that even though they’re family, UltraViolet will try to kill her.
The team tracks down UltraViolet and she’s after a doctor. Sue has a photonic stun grenade that she wants to use on UltraViolet. And the plan sounds like a good idea. Allegra tells Chuck to sit this one out because it’s too dangerous. Sue and Allegra stop UltraViolet from hurting the doctor and they make her very angry. She says she wasn’t hired to kill the doctor. She’s hunting the doctor that created her and they just saved the monster.
THE REAL DEAL
They put UltraViolet in the pipeline at STAR labs and question her about the doctor. His name is Dr. Olsen (Jonathon Young). If you recall, Esperanza and Allegra were in juvenile detention when the particle accelerator exploded, giving them both powers. Esperanza was taken away to be tested on. Dr. Olsen cut out her voice box to stop her from screaming. Now she has to wear a special mask to talk. This adds on to Allegra’s guilt and she vows to help her cousin find the doctor and put him away for good. Sue tries to talk Allegra out of helping her cousin. But Allegra knows Barry would go after that doctor to stop him from hurting anyone else.
UltraViolet tries to teach Allegra how to control her power in a fight, but Allegra isn’t as good as her cousin at it. Sue interrupts and tries to show Allegra why UltraViolet can’t be trusted. Sue and UltraViolet start fighting. UltraViolet throws a blast of light and hits Chester as he walks in with snacks. UltraViolet thinks they are all weak and leaves to finish her mission.
Chester is okay, aside from having to wear a sling. Allegra feels responsible, but he refuses to let her feel bad. He’s ready to continue their pursuit of UltraViolet, but Allegra is unsure. Sue tells Chester to talk some sense into Allegra. Chester doesn’t think Allegra will give up. Sue says sharing a back alley yin-yang tattoo doesn’t mean they’re bonded. The reference triggers something in Chester.
Sue tries to tell Allegra again that she needs to give up on UltraViolet. It’s not that easy for Allegra and she knows Sue could never understand their bond. Sue grew up in a loving home while she and Esperanza had only each other. Allegra says Esperanza is the only reason she was able to survive. And besides, Sue fought Black Hole to save her parents. Why isn’t Allegra’s family good enough to be saved?
Sue says she didn’t save her parents. They’re still alive, but they are not the same. Carver put Sue’s parents in charge of his international accounts. They grew accustomed to a lavish lifestyle. After Carver died, they continued to find ways to make billions off of criminal activity. Sue has tried, but can’t save them. Allegra says Sue’s parents don’t want out, but she has to pull with everything she has if she wants to save them. The same way Team Flash fought for them. And that’s what Allegra is going to do. She’s going to pull harder.
Allegra runs to talk to Chester and he already has a solution. The yin-yang symbol made him realize that they could track down UltraViolet using Allegra’s powers as an input signal. Then the satellites will scan for its counterpart, which is UltraViolet’s powers. He created a device that will read Allegra’s signal and send it to the satellites. And it works. As soon as Allegra blasts the devices, UltraViolet’s location comes up. UltraViolet is actually at an abandoned warehouse that’s obviously Dr. Olsen’s lair. Chester is ready to go, but Allegra is afraid he will be badly hurt again if he goes. Chester won’t take no for an answer though.
RAYO DE LUZ
They were right about the warehouse. Dr. Olsen is waiting for his favorite patient, UltraViolet when she arrives. She raises her hand to blast him with her light, but he stops her and says he has an offer for her. They have no idea that Allegra is in the warehouse to retrieve her cousin. Chester stays in a van near the warehouse. Allegra encounters security guards and Sue shows up again to save her. Sue tells Allegra to find Esperanza while she takes care of the guards. And she does so with ease. The guards have electronic sticks that Sue gets a hold of. She gracefully ties them together to give all of the guards the shock of their life all at once.
Allegra finds Esperanza with the doctor. He intends to give UltraViolet her voice back but in return she has to kill everyone who knows about Dr. Olsen’s work. That’s the entire Team Flash. UltraViolet attacks Allegra again. While they fight, Dr. Olsen says he stayed in business manipulating metahumans and he doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. UltraViolet blasts Allegra with her light, but Allegra counters with her own light. And she’s able to hold her cousin back. The doctor tries to say their powers are fueled by hate. But Allegra’s powers are fueled by love.
Allegra’s light bursts through her chest and she uses both arms to push a more powerful light at UltraViolet. The blast throws her cousin and the doctor back. Allegra stands before them, her whole body and her eyes are lit up. Even UltraViolet is in awe of her power.
They take Esperanza back to STAR Labs. Dr. Olsen was arrested. Caitlin tells Allegra that she may experience more supernova moments. In a way Allegra leveled up. Can someone please give her a superhero name now? Allegra thinks she messed up because it was a rogue mission that almost got Chuck and Sue killed. But Caitlin says she followed her heart. And that’s what Barry would’ve done. Caitlin gives Allegra a file and lets her visit her cousin.
Allegra informs Esperanza that the doctor is in jail. Esperanza is more interested in how Allegra was able to power up like that, but she doesn’t know. Allegra thinks it’s the power of family. UltraViolet is not who Esperanza really is and Allegra knows that. And now her cousin has a chance to be who she really is. They recovered Dr. Olsen’s medical files. Caitlin is sure she can use Esperanza’s file to cure her permanently.
Joe meets Kramer at a secluded bar where she tells him about the mission and one particular soldier that she was close to. His name was Adam Creyke. Kramer grew up with him. They were like brother and sister because they were the only two Native kids on their block.
The night before the mission, they argued. He was trying to convince her not to go on the mission because he had a bad feeling. In reality, he was the one working with the enemy. Kramer feels responsible for the men and women who died because she didn’t see what Adam was up to. Joe gives Kramer the file on the mission. She in turn gives him a larger file. She’s been trying to find Adam for six years and asks Joe to help her catch him. He agrees and they start researching each other’s findings.
Sue announces that she’s going to stick around for a while. She might even try talking to her parents. After she leaves, Allegra thanks Chuck for helping her. She even asks him to go for coffee, but he’s got a D&D game to get to. Allegra asks to join the game and Chuck is excited.
Barry runs in, back from his whirlwind vacation with Iris. He looks round and sees all of the equipment that Chester was playing with. The sling on Chester’s arm. And the bruise on Allegra’s face. Barry asks what happened. Allegra and Cheser look at him awkwardly and say nothing happened.
Frost is out doing her civic duty by chasing down Mark Blaine (Jon Cor), you remember Chillblaine right? Ugh, this guy. Frost got word that Blaine escaped from Iron Heights again. She hits him over the head, ready to take him back to jail when he tells her that he’s a free man. He turned state’s evidence and was released. He’s one of the good guys now. Frost doesn’t look too thrilled. I thought she had a crush on him … hmmm …
