Who is Cicada? That’s the big question on The Flash.  Well, we know that Cicada’s (Chris Kline) real name is Orlin, he has a daughter, he does not like metas, and he has a meta dagger that takes away meta powers.  And tonight we learned that the dagger can detect meta humans.  Orlin is in Jitters when the dagger lights up. A woman walks by at the same time, so Orlin, as Cicada follows her to the parking lot.  She senses that she’s been followed and activates her powers…her arms transform into daggers.  The lady goes on the defense and knocks the dagger out of Cicada’s hands.  She also stabs him in the stomach and tells him that he shouldn’t have followed her.  The dagger flies back and her arms return to normal.  He tells her that she should not exist as the dagger stabs the lady in the back.

Back at STAR Labs, the team is celebrating getting back online with the new satellites in place.  With the new satellites, Cisco (Carlos Valdes) informs Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) that he has tracked down the location of her father’s safehouse.  Caitlin is still a little apprehensive about going. Barry (Grant Gustin) confronts her saying it’s now or never. Meanwhile the rest of the team goes out to search for Cicada’s identity.

Ralph and Cecile

Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) the Detective teams up with Mama Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) the DA to investigate a FEMA shelter.  (He actually wanted Joe [Jesse L. Martin] to go with him because of the badge.)  They are trying to get a list of people treated by FEMA after the satellite exploded. Cecile tries to use her intimidating DA skills to get some answers out of the shelter worker, but she is out of practice. Ralph is scared of her though.

Cecile realizes that her telepathic abilities are interfering. When she felt the shelter worker’s nervousness, so she got nervous too. So the guy is clearing hiding something.  They return to the shelter and discover that the worker has been pocketing the FEMA money.  He gives them files on the people they helped after the satellite explosion.

Iris, Nora, and Sherloque

I should probably point out that Sherloque (Tom Cavanagh) only wanted to team up with Iris (Candice Patton). However, since Iris and Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) are bonding, Nora insisted on teaming up with her mom this time.  So the trio go down to a construction site that they assume Cicada worked at. They talk to the workers, but don’t get any leads.  They decide to go to the waterfront for a tea break.

While Sherloque has his tea and sings French songs loudly, Nora and Iris find a flyer for a carnival that occurred the same night as the Enlightenment.  Iris thinks Cicada might have been at that carnival with his kid.  Nora says she ran all over the place and didn’t find any satellite debris. Then she thinks that maybe the core fell into the water.  Nora creates a tidal wave to reveal what is under water.  They find the core of the satellite and take it back to STAR Labs.

Caitlin, Barry, and Cisco

Cisco vibes to the North Pole where they find an abandoned building.  It doesn’t take them long to find Thomas Snow (Kyle Secor).  He already knows everyone’s names because he has a direct link to STAR Labs, courtesy of Dr. Harrison Wells. Thomas tells the trio that he went into the safe house to slow down his ALS with cryogenic therapy. He says he quarantined himself because of the side effects.  A cryo-malignancy threatens to crystalize his entire body. Thomas found the same genetic markers for ALS in Caitlin when she was a child. So he gave her the cure before it could manifest. The result was Killer Frost.

Thomas says he didn’t develop an alternate personality like Caitlin, so he thinks that’s why he’s dying.  Caitlin suggests using her cells to create a serum to stabilize Thomas’ body.  They would have to lower his body temperature to absolute zero for it to work.  How do they do that?  It just so happens that the DOD has a laser cooling ray that would do the trick.  This means that Cisco would have to hack into the DOD security system to find it.

Orlin sneaks into the hospital to see his daughter.  Dr. Ambres (Lossen Chambers) finds him, still bleeding from his injury.  She tries to tell him to stop what he’s doing.  She doesn’t like what the metas do either, but his daughter isn’t the only person who was hurt.  Orlin tells her to stay out of his business.  Orlin goes home, with a bottle of peroxide.  He takes off his bandage, but collapse before he can clean his wound.

Cisco hacks into the DOD site for information about the laser cooling ray. While he waits, he vibes back to the bunker and sees Thomas working on skin grafts in the lab. Cisco returns to accuse him of being his dual ego, disguised as Thomas.  Thomas covers saying he created the skin grafts to cover the crystalised skin.  Caitlin gets angry and makes Cisco leave.  Barry follows to talk to him, but Cisco accuses Barry of not thinking straight.  He’s clouded by his own reunion with Nora.  Cisco tells him to stop thinking like a dad, and start thinking like a CSI.

Barry checks in on Caitlin who is still very angry with Cisco.  Barry says he wants to believe that Thomas really is Caitlin’s father but there are  a lot holes in his story.  Caitlin jumps to his defense saying Barry knows estranged she is from her mother and how empty she is without Killer Frost.  Barry says they are her family too. She should keep an open mind because they care about her.

Caitlin comes to realization that if a human takes the serum, it will suppress the malignant side. If she gives it to a cryogenic human, it will permanently suppress the human side. That’s not Thomas Snow, it’s his alter ego.  He needed Caitlin’s cells to wipe Thomas out of existence.

Frosty Reunion

Caitlin confronts Icicle, Thomas’s alter ego.  He uses his Icicle powers to thin out the air and make Barry and Caitlin sleep.  Icicle gets away, and takes the serum with him.  After Cisco wakes them, Caitlin apologizes for doubting Cisco.  Iris finds a DOD site that is dropping in temperature rapidly.  Icicle is dropping the temperature to absolute zero so he can inject the serum and be Icicle forever!

Team Flash heads to the DOD site, but it’s too cold for Flash and XS to run, Vibe to vibe or Ralph to Elongate.  Caitlin is the only one who can withstand the cold.  But Killer Frost is gone…or is she?  With much concentration, Caitlin is able to summon Frostie.  Icicle taunts her, saying Thomas has been gone for a very long time.  Frostie stops the temperature drop.  Icicle tries to seduce her to the dark side, but Killer Frost is strong because of her Flash family.  Icicle transforms to Thomas just long enough for Caitlin to fall for his trickery.  Icicle knocks out Frostie and flys away.

Back at the lab, Cisco and Barry tell Caitlin that they will find Icicle, as they look for cold signatures.  Caitlin realizes there must still be a part of her dad alive and that her mom was probably trying to protect her from Icicle. Cisco shows them evidence that DeVoe didn’t remove Killer Frost from Caitlin.  He used a mind block to stop Killer Frost from emerging.  That means Caitlin can bring her back.  She uses Harry’s mental activity dampener to hear Killer Frost again.

Iris, Sherloque and Nora show Barry and Cisco the satellite core that they found.  There is a part of the core that is missing in the shape of the dagger that Cicada carries.  Ralph and Cecile return with information about three kids that were hit by pieces of the satellite…Grace Givens is one of them.

Dr. Ambres arrives at Orlin’s home.  He is unconscious on the floor. When the doctor touches his wound, he wakes up.  She says she’s there to patch up his side.  He stops her and says the wound is making him stronger

Yay for Mommy and Me time!  It’s nice to Nora and Iris bonding.  Although, Sherloque must have had his reasons for wanting to be able to speak to Iris alone.  Hmmmm…

I really liked the Barry-Cisco-Caitlin team up.  They are the OG heroes and we don’t get to see them team up much anymore.  I especially like when Cisco and Caitlin brainstorm together.  There’s a lot of smarts in that room…maybe too much.

The Ralph-Cecile team up was fun too.  Too bad Papa Joe isn’t feeling well. If you haven’t heard, Jesse L. Martin took a leave of absence because of health issues.  Get well soon Jesse Martin!

So we are a couple of steps closer to finding out who Cicada really is.  But this may be the last we see of that storyline this year.  Next week looks like a bonding episode for the West-Allens where Barry and Nora will travel to the past.  And then it’s Crossover Week!  My favorite time of the year!
