Out of TV Line today comes news that the second season of the CW’s hit series, The Flash, will see the introduction of a classic DC Comics character named Doctor Light.

According to the site, “Cisco and Caitlin (made) mention of ex-S.T.A.R. Labs employee Doctor Light when they first appeared in Season 2’s “The Man Under the Hood.”

Doctor Light, A.K.A. Arthur Light, is an iconic Justice League super villain who can manipulate light and is a super genius on par with anyone else in the DC Universe. He’s a bit of a despised character as he was revealed to be a rapist in Brad Meltzer’s storyline, Identity Crisis.

However, Arthur Light is actually NOT the Doctor Light that The Flash is using! As TV Line reports, according to show runner Gabrielle Stanton, “it’s going to be the female version” of the character!

THAT version, Kimiyo Hoshi, is a superhero on par with Superman or Green Lantern, able to fly at the speed of light, manipulate light, and create solid constructs out of pure light among other cool light-based abilities.

Kimiyo was first introduced in Crisis on Infinite Earths #4, as a brilliant scientist, difficult to get along with, who was gifted with her abilities through exposure to light from the star Vega.

No word yet on casting, when we can expect to see her or how she’ll be utilized in the show, all we know, for certain, is that The Flash starts it’s second season on October 6th on the CW.
