Still of Steven Strait in The Expanse Season 6 Episode 1 "Strange Dogs"

Beltalowda, NYCC 2021 hath blessed us on this day. The cast and executive producers of The Expanse crash-landed for a delightful panel — but that’s not all! We’ve got a release date for Season Six and a brand-spankin’ new teaser!

Dominique Tipper (Naomi Nagata) moderated a panel featuring Steven Strait (James Holden), Wes Chatham (Amos Burton), Shohreh Aghdashloo (Chrisjen Avasarala), Cara Gee (Camina Drummer), Nadine Nicole (Clarissa “Peaches” Mao), Naren Shankar (showrunner/executive producer), Ty Franck (author of the novels/executive producer) and Daniel Abraham (author of the novels/executive producer).

Now, the final season of our favorite sci-fi series boasts six action-packed, white-knuckled episodes. Shankar vows that Season Six is a thrill ride from beginning to end, one that “doesn’t let its foot off the gas” until the finale, wherein we’ll feel a sense of catharsis.

Additionally, the series finale episode is a whopping 65 minutes long! Each outing will be released weekly, and there will be short segments called “X-Rays” that’ll debut in between every episode. Chatham wrote one of the X-Rays as well.

The consensus among the cast/EPs is that a feeling of defeat permeates our characters in Season Six. The Roci crew questions their intentions and why they’re doing what they’re doing, notably Holden. Naomi mourns the loss of Alex and Filip (in a way) and channels her grief through others, mainly Peaches, whose presence on the Roci becomes a difficult pill for her and Holden to swallow.

The Expanse panel also shared a brief recap of the first five seasons, showcasing not only the brilliant plot progression of the series but immense character growth.

In the one-minute teaser for the upcoming season, Avasarala provides narration, noting that everyone feels like they’ve failed. Marco Inaros (Keon Alexander) grows more potent with every attack.

Amazon Prime’s The Expanse Season Six premieres on Friday, December 10, with weekly drops. You can watch the sneak peek below!
