Screaming Firehawks – do I have news for you! The Expanse will live on at Amazon Prime! Yes, you read that correctly. All of your collective hard work has paid off handsomely. The Rocinante will take flight for Season 4 thanks to the streaming giant. And you, of course. Your pleas on social media did not go unnoticed.
Now, the announcement was made by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos himself Friday night at a panel at the National Space Society with the cast and crew in Los Angeles. Bezos is a devout fan of The Expanse novels penned by James S. A. Corey, so the revival of the critically acclaimed sci-fi series by Amazon isn’t that far-fetched. “I just got word that The Expanse was saved,” Bezos eagerly revealed to the panel’s audience.
Of course, when SyFy initially decided to drop The Expanse for a fourth season fans took to the internet to make themselves heard. Cas Anvar, who portrays fan favorite Alex Kamal on the series, was a huge proponent in leading the charge in saving The Expanse. He would routinely live tweet weekly episodes as well as incessantly interact with fans on Twitter. In fact, he was one of the first to make the big announcement on social media Friday evening.
Now, I’m overjoyed The Expanse will continue on with Amazon. While the show adheres perfectly with SyFy’s lineup and the channel’s entire premise for existing, Amazon has the big bucks. The breathtaking VFX images are one of the many reasons I watch this show. Imagine those shots of Venus or the rings of Uranus if The Expanse had a bigger budget! Amazon can easily provide financial security and the monetary freedom this series needs to thrive. The Expanse deserves to fly free with no holds barred and no pulled punches. The bigger budget will only enhance our viewing experience and grant the Powers That Be the ability to tell the best story possible.
So, without further ado, I give you the official announcement of The Expanse Season 4 renewal at Amazon. I’ll let Jeff Bezos take it from here. Thank you, Amazon, for saving this series we love so dearly. Screaming Firehawks, you did well. Now let’s enjoy the remainder of Season 3 in comfort and the surefire knowledge that the story will continue.
The Expanse airs Wednesdays at 9pm on your SyFy affiliate.
