The epic story continues. BOOM! Studios is producing a new comic book series that expands the space saga as told in Prime Video’s critically lauded and audience-beloved sci-fi series The Expanse. The comic book company’s press release reveals The Expanse: Dragon Tooth will be a 12-issue series from writer Andy Diggle and artist Rubine.

The Expanse: Dragon Tooth picks up after the series finale of its live-action predecessor, chronicling a hidden history between James S.A. Corey‘s Babylon’s Ashes, Book 6, and Persepolis Rising, Book 7. Corey will oversee and provide creative guidance for The Expanse universe’s first new in-canon story.

According to BOOM! Studios, “the secret history of fans’ favorite characters will be revealed for the very first time.” The comic series will also tie together “threads of the show” and answer “lingering questions that will bring readers and viewers alike far beyond the stellar horizon.”

Currently, there’s a Kickstarter campaign from BOOM! Studios, where fans can help back the company’s goal of $25,000. The Kickstarter will be active until Thursday, March 9. However, it already has almost 900 backers with over $129,000 pledged and rapidly climbing. Something tells me the studio won’t struggle to finance this project.

There are several tier options in said Kickstarter campaign where fans are rewarded based on their pledges. Screaming Firehawks can score everything from access to all 12 issues of the comic book series to membership cards and prop replicas, along with an exclusive virtual Q&A with special guests.

I’ve been itching for an expansion of this story since the series ended last year. While having the books at our disposal is wonderful, this immersive, genre-defining universe is ripe for a comic adaptation. There are already a few gorgeous illustrations you can check out below.

You can pre-order The Expanse: Dragon Tooth from the BOOM! Studios website or your local comic shop. Expect the first issue to hit comic shops in April 2023.
