Screaming Firehawks, The Expanse is the gift that keeps on giving, and this holiday season yields some Laconian fruit! The official Twitter account for the sci-fi series shared a behind-the-scenes video featuring Cara Gee (Drummer) giving a tour of the Laconia set.

Firstly, Gee shows us the “domestic dwelling” spotlighted on Laconia, wherein Cara (Emma Ho), Xan (Ian Ho), Gary (Daniel Jun) and Dot (Dianne Aguilar) reside. Gee chats with Jun and Aguilar about the Laconian home, in which the family creates the dwelling from 3D-printed materials.

Aguilar reveals her favorite part of the set — a Tupperware container filled with lavender.

Next, Gee takes us through the forest setting on Laconia. While it looks surprisingly authentic, Gee informs us that it’s on a studio lot. We learn the set builders created 200 trees on which they individually screwed 2,500 branches. Not only that, but they have sap. It even smells like a forest!

Then, Gee introduces us to “The Glade,” where most of the novella Strange Dogs by James S.A. Corey occurs. Peter EmminkThe Expanse‘s set designer, 3D printed The Glade and digitally scanned it along with hundreds of precision-cut wood fragments to create the look we see on the show. It also boasts actual water with a current rigged by the special effects team.

In short, the Laconia set is stunning! Hats off to The Expanse‘s incredible crew for creating a living, breathing world that I wish I could explore in person.

On another note: Gee’s real-life personality is the day to Drummer’s night. It’s proof positive that she’s one of the most talented performers in the industry.

Check out the behind-the-scenes video below, and be sure to tune in for the final season of The Expanse when it streams every Friday on Prime Video (and read our recaps here).
