The Equalizer Season 4 is off to a great start. “Truth for a Truth” starts right where Season 3 left off, with Robyn (Queen Latifah) watching Mel (Liza Lapira), Harry (Adam Goldberg), and Dante (Tory Kittles) be in danger of being burned alive. Luckily, Bishop Security shows up and is able to help Robyn save her friends.

However, the happy moment doesn’t last long as they are all taken in for interrogation at the CIA headquarters. While Mel, Harry and Dante are being interrogated about what happened to them, Robyn talks to the director about what is going on. She finds out the CIA is still trying to capture Michelle (Ilfenesh Hadera) and she decides to find her before they do.

File 314

The Venezuelan fighters and Michelle first take Robyn because of what happened in Venezuela years ago. They are trying to find file 314 and take their revenge for the CIA having abandoned them. Michelle is particularly looking to avenge their old partner, whom she had to watch die in a fire.

Fisk (Donal Logue) seems to be the only one who knows what is in file 314, but after having been tortured, he is in the hospital recovering. Even though he tries to tell Robyn the truth, she assumes the file is a list of everyone involved in the Venezuela mission years ago. Therefore, she relies on Bishop Security to send protection to the families of every agent — including her own.

However, Harry is the first to mention that the CIA isn’t guarding these families, so there is something they must know about the file. And after further investigation, Robyn discovers file 314 is the name of the man who called the operation off in Venezuela.

Even though the CIA capture the Venezuelan fighters, Michelle is still missing. Once they realize what file 314 truly is, Robyn knows the man is Michelle’s target, so she offers — imposes — her protection to keep him safe and find Michelle.

Finding Michelle

Throughout The Equalizer Season 4 Episode 1, “Truth for a Truth,” Robyn’s main goal is to find Michelle and keep her safe from the CIA. She knows if the agency gets to her first, they will either kill her or make her disappear.

While looking at old photos from their time in Venezuela, Robyn realizes she will find Michelle staying with their old partner’s father. Lo and behold, that is where she finds her, but when she tries to talk to her, the two women are attacked by CIA snippers. Thanks to them, Robyn loses track of Michelle once more.

Later on, it is Michelle who finds her instead because she is after the man Robyn is protecting. Even though Robyn expects to have a conversation with her and convince her to stop her plan for revenge, Michelle has other plans. The two women face each other in a sword combat. Michelle manages to injure Robyn, but in true The Equalizer nature, Robyn is the winner of the combat.

The CIA manages to take Michelle into custody, but their plans get messed up when she manages to escape custody.

Dante: One of Them

Dante looking at Harry on The Equalizer.

In previous seasons of The Equalizer, Dante had indirectly worked with Robyn, Mel and Harry but had never officially joined the team. On “Truth for a Truth,” after a near-life experience and while being suspended from the NYPD, Dante joins the team. He is invited back to the bar for a drink and then down to Harry’s cave while they investigate what is going on.

Throughout the episode, he helps in different ways. First, he helps Mel interrogate a suspect. While working together, Mel asks about the things he said about Robyn, but Dante avoids the topic. Instead, he shares with her his fears about going back to NYPD and not knowing what truly is good for him and his beliefs.

Secondly, he helps lead Mel and Robyn while they are being chased by telling them where to go next and which streets to avoid. He spends the entire episode in Harry’s cave, helping them navigate the case and making sure they all make it home safely.

In the end, he is called back to his precinct. At first, he believed they wouldn’t reinstate him and his badge would be taken away from him for good. However, he is surprised to know an anonymous tip was sent to his bosses with a video of the incident that got him in trouble. His name is clear, and he makes it very clear that even though he is back working at NYPD, he will still help the trio.

Following in Mom’s Footsteps

While Robyn is out fighting the bad guys as The Equalizer has viewers used to, Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes) and Aunt Vi (Lorraine Toussaint) are at home being taken care of by Bishop Security in case someone decides to go after them.

Even though Robyn knows Michelle isn’t after the families, she still keeps the security over at her house. That is when Delilah starts asking one of the guards questions about his life, how he got the job, and why he decided to work for Bishop Security. As is to be expected, Aunt Vi is worried about Delilah following in her mom’s footsteps.

The teenager and the older woman have a conversation about this, and Delilah promises to always be there for Aunt Vi no matter what she decides to do after high school. But she makes it very clear that she is now considering a career like her mom’s for her future.
