The Equalizer Season 4 ended with Dante (Tory Kittles) accepting a job offer in Los Angeles and Mel (Liza Lapira) taking a step back from the team to care for her mental health. Therefore, The Equalizer Season 5 Episode 1, “The Lost Ones,” starts with Robyn (Queen Latifah) having nightmares where she finds herself tied to a chair and another version of herself telling her no one is coming to get her.
The only one who seems to notice the toll these changes are having on Robyn is Aunt Vi (Lorraine Toussaint), who is also keeping a close eye on Miles (Stephen Bishop). He seems to be spending more time around the house, hanging out with Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes) and being affectionate towards Robyn.
The Equalizer, “The Lost Ones”
Aside from Robyn’s nightmare, the episode starts with a little girl being chased down the street and then caught by a man who takes care away. Soon, we learn the girl’s name is Randy. The woman in charge of Randy approaches Robyn about her being missing and tells her she can’t go to the police.

The truth is this woman has an arrangement where she takes in children who have run away from their foster families for different reasons. Instead of letting them live on the streets, she takes them in and cares for them. However, this arrangement isn’t legal, so she can’t go the legal route to find Randy.
In order to help find Randy, Robyn must talk to her brother to find out what he knows. It is then that Kevin confesses the two of them stole what they believed to be a food truck. Randy was watching for anyone coming their way while Kevin stole the truck. However, when he opened the truck, he discovered it to be full of guns. That is when he received a call saying Randy had been taken and she would only be returned if Kevin gave them the truck back.
The Past
Robyn decides to take Kevin to where he stashed the stolen car. On the drive there, Kevin shares details about their past and how they ended up where they are now. When they arrive at their destination, they realize someone has taken the truck.

The only way Robyn can find the truck is by asking Harry (Adam Goldberg) for help. Because they have no details on the truck or who was driving it, Harry suggests he go to where the kids first stole the truck to find any security cameras that might help them get more information.
Meanwhile, Mel and Delilah are doing yoga and talking about Delilah’s senior year and the boy she likes.
Calling Dante
In Los Angeles, Dante is working his new job and seems unsure about how some of his coworkers handle suspects. Saved by the bell, Harry calls him to ask for help tracking down the truck since he is running out of ideas. While Dante promises to help, they also talk about Mel and Robyn.
Harry says Mel is doing better but believes she won’t be returning to the team. He agrees that’s best for her but is unsure how Robyn will react to the news. Before hanging up, he mentions Robyn misses Dante.

Put Up a Fight
Harry finds a cigarette near where the truck first was when the kids stole it and can get a DNA match from it. They discover the gang who owned the truck hangs out at a bar nearby, so Robyn decides to check it out. When she arrives, she has to fight the men there. In true Robyn fashion, she wins and demands to see Randy. However, they inform her that the boss took Randy to another location. If she wants to see her alive, she has to bring the truck back.
The truck is now at a police impound lot, and it’s nearly impossible to take out because the feds have been called in to help. Harry suggests Dante might be able to help because he works with the FBI. He also takes this chance to tell Robyn that Dante misses her just like he did on his call with Dante earlier.

Robyn decides to take Harry’s advice and call Dante. During the call, he says he will do his best to help her. They both insinuate they miss each other, but the conversation doesn’t go further because Dante gets interrupted by his colleagues with a lead on their case.
Robyn Works Alone
While Robyn is working, Aunt Vi gets scared when Miles walks into the house unannounced. She confronts him, letting him know she is watching his actions. Miles pleads his case by saying he is a better man who realizes he didn’t know what he had until he lost it, and he wants his family back.
At the impound lot, Robyn pretends to be a woman who got her care taken away. She claims she has too many traffic tickets that she can’t pay, so she only wants to see her car to get her medication out. The officer in charge denies her entry until she can convince him with a sandwich.

She can steal the truck back. That is when she gets a call from one of the other foster children, letting her know that Kevin got a call from the gang and disappeared. All the girl could hear was that Kevin would meet the men to trade himself for his sister. However, when he arrives, the boss decides to keep both of them until Robyn shows up with the stolen guns.
Flashbacks
As she arrives at the warehouse where the kids are being kept, Robyn realizes she has to do the job alone. Harry is with her on the phone, but by the time Robyn has to enter the warehouse, he leaves her hanging.
Delilah calls Harry for help as Mel is having a panic attack. When the two women were saying goodbye after their yoga class, Mel came across a gun in a drawer at the bar and began having flashbacks from her time in the army. Even though it is important that Harry is there to help her, he leaves Robyn to fend for herself.

At the same time, Robyn fights two of the gang members and rescues the kids. However, when we think she is safe, we hear Dante leaving a voice mail for Harry in which he says the actual boss is a man from the cartel who is very dangerous and should only be confronted by an army.
There Is No Team
Robyn and the kids listen as the cartel guy murders two gang members for losing their guns. She quickly realizes she is outnumbered, so she tells the kids to run while she fights the men. The cartel boss knocks her out before she can do anything.
When she wakes up, she is tied to a chair, and the cartel guy begins to question her. He believes she works for the police or has called them already and wants to know how compromised his operation is. Because she refuses to talk, he threatens to torture her. That is when Harry returns to his computer and realizes Robyn is in trouble, so he calls 911.

Before help arrives, Robyn can set herself free. However, as she is running away, the bad guys shoot an explosive her way, and she is injured. It is because Kevin and Randy arrive in a stolen car that she is able to run away and stay alive. The cartel guy clearly states they will be coming after her.
Straight to Voicemail
Dante tries calling Robyn, but it goes straight to voicemail. Harry tells Mel he is having the same issue. He explains what happened during the case earlier that day. Even though Robyn claimed to have been okay, she wasn’t answering their calls. Mel blames herself for what happened because she should have been there for Robyn.
Later that night, Robyn arrives home after Delilah and Aunt Vi have gone to sleep and takes the chance to wash the blood away from her hands. That is when Miles walks in and finds her. He wants to take her to a hospital, but she refuses to. Because he is a doctor, he examines her, explaining she needs stitches.
