The Strain Series Finale

After four seasons, The Strain is finally coming to an end.  Ephraim, Dutch, Fet, Gus, Mr. Quinlan and others carry on Abraham Setrakian’s fight to end the Master and his strigoi.

The series started with a small strain infecting passengers on a plane.  Each season, Team Setrakian won a few battles and lost loved ones.  They never quite united though until the final season.  It took a nuclear bomb to unite them once and for all.

The team lost Setrakian(David Bradley) on the night of their greatest victory. That same night Setrakian defeated and killed his nemesis, Thomas Eichorst (Richard Sammel). (A loss for fans as well…Eichorst was an amazing villain.)

Both sides have leverage over the other.  Both sides will make big sacrifices to win.  It’s just a matter of what those sacrifices will be.

Last week, the team finally located the Master(Jonathan Hyde), but the Master is one step ahead of them. The episode ended with Mr. Quinlan (Rupert Penry-Jones) facing a handful of strigoi and the human resistance, facing a horde.

Official Synopsis:

In the series finale, Quinlan devises a desperate plan, but the costs are enormous. Eph wrestles with his conscience, Fet undertakes a suicide mission, and Dutch and Gus dig in for battle as humankind makes its final stand against the Master and his Strain.

The final trailer gives exactly what we expect the finale to be. Explosions, crying, hugs, guns, uncertain fate of Mr. Quinlan and of course the over confident Master.

What gets me about the trailer is Zach (Max Charles).  He appears to appalled by the Master unleashing his strigoi on humanity when he says “the masquerade of co-existence is over.” He also appears to pick up a gun…that just happens to be laying next to Setrakian’s sword. Is he fighting for the Master?  Or does he have a change of heart?

As much as I like Quinlan, his fate is pretty much sealed.  He is a natural born strigoi, but he is still tied to the Master fate.  If the Master dies, Quinlan dies.  So he has to be the one to make the final move…right?

I have a feeling someone else will step up and make another kind of sacrifice.  Maybe Fet (Kevin Durand).  Maybe Gus (Miguel Gomez). Or even Dutch (Ruta Gedmintas) or Eph (Corey Stoll).  It would be kind of poetic for Zach to have a change of heart and Eph makes a sacrifice for him.
