The Dark Tower is pretty fresh off of its time on the big screen and now it is getting its very own TV series. A series based on Stephen King’s eight Dark Tower books is moving forward. And, they’ve got their Roland Deschain in Sam Strike (Nightflyers).
Strike will be joined by Jasper Pääkkönen (Vikings, BlacKkKlansman). Though there is no official word on Pääkkönen’s role, he’s rumored to be playing Marten. That’s according to Deadline, which reported Thursday.
The Dark Tower series is not related to the 2017 film. In fact, those involved with the show have made a point to say that the series will be a “more faithful retelling” of the source material. The plot will, apparently, “take place many years before the events depicted in the feature and will focus on Roland Deschain’s origin story – how he first became a gunslinger and got his guns, his first conflict with the man in black, his first love and his first mission as a gunslinger.” That’s all good news for fans of the books. Though we won’t get Idris Elba. And, for that we should all be sorry.
