The Boys run into a major obstacle in their mission to stop the Seven. In “The Last Time To Look On This World Of Lies,” Butcher (Karl Urban) and the Boys turn their attention on Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) while Homelander (Antony Starr) continues to make changes that fit his agenda at Vought International.
Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) is alive, but she’s not healing very fast. The Boys return to the US after releasing Soldier Boy from his Russian prison. Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso) decides to leave again, disgusted with Butcher and Hughie (Jack Quaid) after they used Temp V. Butcher only feels bad about Hughie using the drug. Every time he looks at Hughie, he sees his little brother Lenny. Frenchie (Tomer Capone) takes Kimiko to the hospital.
Ashley (Colby Minifie) is named CEO of Vaught after Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) was asked to leave. But let’s be real, Homelander has all the power here. And yet, Homelander is not satisfied with his new position.
The Deep (Chace Crawford) is the new head of the crime division. No one really sees him as the authority type. Good thing he bought cupcakes. Vought told the media that Supersonic (Miles Gaston Villanueva) committed suicide because of his addiction to drugs.
Starlight (Erin Moriarty) is even more concerned about Hughie’s safety after what Homelander did to Supersonic. Hughie doesn’t make things any easier for her when he tells her what happened in Russia, including the part about him taking Temp V. She gets upset that he risked his life like that and is even more concerned that he liked the power. He tells her that he won’t do it again because they are out of V.
But they’re not. Butcher called Maeve (Dominique McElligott) to tell her about Soldier Boy and ask for more V. She stops by to deliver the goods and ends up drinking with Butcher. Since there is no weapon, they try to come up with another plan. Ryan (Cameron Crovetti) isn’t strong enough to take on Homelander. The Flight 37 video was a bluff. And Homelander threatened to kill everyone if it was released because he has nothing to lose.
Butcher says the Temp V was powerful. It turns people into their worst self. And the Supes are like that all the time. So every single one of them has to go. Maeve agrees and kisses Butcher. He tries to stop her, but they end up having sex.
Little Nina (Katia Winter) is in Kimiko’s room when Frenchie gets there the next morning. She heard about the mess that The Boys made in Russia. That situation costs her money and now Frenchie has to take care of the debt by working for her. She gives him his first assignment. He has to kill a man and his daughter. Frenchie has an issue with killing a child though.
Kimiko wakes up and is happy to see Frenchie. She realizes that she’s not fully healed and asks for something heavy. Frenchie brings her a monitor and she can’t lift it. Kimiko is happy. Something about the blast from Soldier Boy took away her powers.
Starlight confronts A-Train (Jesse T. Usher) about ratting out Supersonic. A-Train is on his way to meet Ashley who set up a meeting with Blue Hawk (Nick Wechsler). A-Train asks Blue Hawk to apologize for how he treats the black communities in Trenton. Blue Hawk gets defensive at first but then agrees to give a public apology.
Soldier Boy finds a way back to the US. He’s been gone for 30 something years, so nothing looks familiar to him. He hears disco music coming from a truck. It stirs up memories of his time in Russia. He bends over in pain. When he stands up, the blast of energy emits from his torso.
MM has plans to take Janine (Liyou Abere) to the science center. When he picks her up, she’s watching Homelander’s rant from his birthday celebration. While Janine gets her things, MM tells Todd (Matthew Gorman) not to let his daughter watch that stuff. Todd thinks it’s good for the kid because Homelander is the greatest superhero who fights big corporations and legacy media. Sound familiar? MM disagrees but is interrupted with a report about an explosion in town. The news shows a security video of the explosion and MM sees Soldier Boy. MM decides he has to go.
Homelander sees the video too. Starlight says they need to handle it. Homelander instructs the Ashleys to set up a bunch of interviews. Whatever move they make, they have to protect the Seven and Vaught’s image. Starlight wants to find the supervillain, so Homelander tells her to go.
Starlight calls Hughie and they both think Soldier Boy caused the explosion. He is headed to the explosion site with Butcher. Hughie sees someone from his office and she points out that Hughie’s arm is supposed to be broken. MM shows up, ready to find Soldier Boy alone. Butcher says he can’t do it alone. He needs help. MM needs the Boys. And after they take care of Soldier Boy, MM never has to see them again. MM agrees and says they have to go see The Legend.
Starlight goes to the crime division to try and find out who caused the explosion. There’s one person working there because Deep fired everyone who posted a bad tweet about Homelander.
A-Train and Blue Hawk show up at the Trenton community center. Blue Hawk reads a prepared statement that highlights his proof that he’s not racist. He says he doesn’t see color, many of his friends are black, and he’s donating $10,000 to the community center.
The crowd does not accept his apology. They ask him specific questions about the people he’s hurt. Blue Hawk gets defensive and starts yelling at the crowd. It turns bad real quick. Blue Hawk starts throwing people around, including A-Train’s brother Nathan (Christian Keyes).
The Boys visit The Legend (Paul Reiser); it’s not a name, it’s a level. The Legend lives like it’s 1979. He used to be the VP of Hero Management before Madeline Stillwell took over. Legend talks about the Supes like their actors and he’s their manager.
MM asks The Legend if Soldier Boy visited him. The Legend says he hasn’t seen Soldier Boy. He just doesn’t want to help them because of Butcher. MM says Legend owes him because he helped cover up what happened to MM’s family. Legend admits Soldier Boy was there to pick up his super suit. He also asked for Crimson Countess’ (Laurie Holden) address.
Homelander goes on a talk show to address the super villain attack and it turns into a statement about making Vought great again. He watches the playback with Maeve. She calls him a paranoid narcissist who thinks everything is about him. He says he’s not paranoid if everyone is out to get him. He knows Maeve is out to get him. And he knows she’s working with Butcher. He can smell Butcher on her.
Homelander accuses Maeve and Butcher of bringing the super villain to town. He thinks she’s doing it just to hurt him. And he’s hurt. She used to be his ride or die. He actually loved her. It makes him wonder if anything about them was real. Maeve admits that she hated him from the start. And she pitied him even more. Homelander laughs at that. And then he has Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) attack Maeve.
The Boys decide to go to Crimson Countess’s home to intercept Soldier Boy. Butcher thinks they all should take the Temp V so they can fight if they need to. Hughie is in, but MM declines.
Starlight confronts Ashley about Maeve. The company’s story is that Maeve was put into rehab, but Starlight knows it was Homelander’s doing. She tells Ashley that they need to stand up to Homelander. She asks where Maeve is. Ashley almost cracks. She regains her composure and reminds Starlight to make an appointment.
Nathan is hurt so bad that he will never walk again. A-Train watches Blue Hawk on the news, lying about what happened. He told the press that someone pulled a gun. He tries hard to look like the good guy.
Kimiko and Frenchie are watching Girl Crazy when she starts talking. Frenchie calls for the doctor. Kimiko jumps out of bed and starts singing “I Got Rhythm.” This is the musical number that you saw in the trailer. The entire hospital dances with Kimiko and Frenchie. The musical number was a dream. In reality, Kimiko looked at Frenchie and kissed him. He gets nervous and decides to leave for coffee. That’s when Little Nina’s goons grab him.
The Boys finds Crimson Countess while entertaining Seth Rogan. They tie her up and tell her that Soldier Boy is alive. Crimson Countess knew Soldier Boy was a prisoner in Russia. She says he’s going to kill her and asked to be let go. They won’t because she’s the bait they need to capture Soldier Boy.
The plan is to knock out Soldier Boy the same way the Russians did and then figure out what to do with him. Starlight shows up after MM calls her. She and Hughie start arguing, so Butcher sends them away.
Hughie tells Starlight that he took the V. He says he did it so he could save her for once. Starlight says she doesn’t need him to save her. She just needs him.
The radiation levels begin to rise, but MM starts feeling woozy. Butcher drugged him. He knew MM wouldn’t go along with his real plan for Soldier Boy. And he knows MM won’t ever forgive him,
Soldier Boy arrives and Butcher tells him where to find Crimson Countess. He wants to team up with Soldier Boy to take down Homelander. Soldier Boy confronts Crimson Countess about her betrayal. He asks how much the Russians paid the team. Countess said they did it for free because they hated him so much. Soldier Boy actually loved her. He powers up and blast her with radiated energy.
Hughie and Starlight run to the blast point and find Butcher carrying MM away from the explosion. He tells Starlight to watch over him and admits he drugged his friend. Soldier Boy walks out of the smoke. Starlight is ready to fight, but Hughie stands in front of her to stop her.
Hughie says Soldier Boy is the weapon. He’s the only one who’s strong enough to kill Homelander. MM would have never approved of the plan, that’s why they drugged him. Hughie says he’s doing this to protect her and asks her to come with them. Starlight asks him not to go, but he does anyway.
