The Boys' Homelander stands outside Godolkin University during the day while looking serious in Gen V Season 1 Episode 8, "Guardians of Godolkin."

Highlights:

  • Prime Video’s CCXP panel revealed the Season 4 teaser trailer for The Boys.
  • The teaser gave us a first look at Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s characters.
  • The new season will drop sometime in 2024.

“All democracies fail…”

“…because people are f**king stupid,” warns Susan Heyward’s Sister Sage to Antony Starr’s Homelander. Prime Video’s CCXP panel unveiled The Boys Season 4 teaser trailer on Saturday. Based on said teaser, the state of the world in this fictional universe is best described as a burning dumpster.

Here’s a synopsis for the new season per Amazon Studios:

“The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team is fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.”

The Gen V of It All

If you watched the first season of Gen V, you know it occurs between Seasons 3 and 4 of The Boys. The spin-off’s season finale saw Homelander arrive at Godolkin University to end the massacre perpetrated by Cate (Maddie Phillips) and Sam (Asa Germann). Of course, Vought’s PR team kicks things into overdrive by dubbing Cate and Sam the new “Guardians of Godolkin,” and pinning the blame for the bloodshed on Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Andre (Chance Perdomo), Jordan (London Thor/Derek Luh) and Emma (Lizze Broadway).

In addition to Starr, The Boys stars Claudia Doumit (as Victoria Neuman) and Colby Minifie (as Ashley Barrett) had substantial roles in Gen V‘s first season. Karl Urban cameoed as Billy Butcher in the finale’s mid-credit scene, sweeping God U.’s ominous underground facility, The Woods, for hints leading toward the mystery virus Dean Shetty (Shelley Conn) concocted alongside Dr. Cardosa (Marco Pigossi) to eradicate supes. However, Victoria Neuman walked away with the entirety of the virus in the penultimate episode after killing Cardosa.

According to a Variety interview, Eric Kripke teased that The Boys Season 4 will take place a few days after the Gen V season finale’s events.

Meeting New Faces

In this Season 4 teaser trailer (brilliantly edited like a horror movie), we meet Susan Heyward’s Sister Sage, who provides narration while chatting with Homelander. Additionally, we see Valorie Curry’s gun-toting Firecracker in action. Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character also appears and seems to have an established camaraderie with Butcher, although his name is unknown.

I love the MAGA satirization in the teaser and the showcasing of supes with freaky abilities. As Sister Sage hints in her monologue, we’ll see Homelander’s and Starlight’s (Erin Moriarty) respective supporters go head-to-head this season.

The Boys Season 4 stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, Cameron Crovetti, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Season 4 premieres sometime in 2024 on Prime Video.
