THE BOYS Recap: (S03E04) Glorious Five Year Plan

Updated on:

The Boys never do anything conventional. In “Glorious Five Year Plan,” Butcher (Karl Urban) and the Boys head to Russia while Homelander (Antony Starr) asserts his authority to everyone.

Butcher and the Boys are on a search for a weapon that may or may not kill Homelander.  They’re getting a little help from Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) who gave Butcher a sample of the new enhancement drug, Temp V. The drug gives the user super powers for 24 hours and then a killer hangover. This could get crazy.

Meanwhile Homelander found his new sense of confidence, causing Starlight (Erin Moriarty) to fear what’s next. Especially after he told the world that he and Starlight are dating.  Ew …

MAKING MOVES

Hughie (Jack Quaid) found out the gross way that Butcher is on V. Butcher threw up all over the kid. He tells Hughie to keep quiet about the V.

Homelander goes on the record to let everyone know that he’s tired of being attacked by the mainstream media. He says someone is trying to silence him. These “someones” operate in the shadows, pulling the strings and they are everywhere. Even inside of Vought.

Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) asks Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) to go after Homelander to remind him who’s really in charge. Victoria thinks it’s a bad idea. She’s most concerned for her safety and the safety of her daughter Zoe (Olivia Morandin). Edgar promises to not let anything happen to them so Victoria agrees.

Frenchie (Tomer Capone) takes Butcher to meet with Little Nina (Katia Winter). Butcher wants her help getting into the Russian government building where the weapon is supposed to be. He gives her enough money to cover Cherie’s (Jordana Lajoie) debt plus 100K. Nina wants Cherie too. Frenchie tries to get Butcher to leave, but he thinks he can negotiate a deal.

JUST LIKE THE KARDASHIANS

Starlight shows Hughie the #HomeLight footage from American Hero. He’s not happy, and says he’s going to save her this time. Starlight wants some assurance that Hughie can find the weapon to kill Homelander.

Homelander interrupts to pick up Starlight for their photo shoot. He signs Hughie’s arm cast and taunts him a bit about his fake relationship. Starlight threatens to walk if Homelander touches Hughie or anyone he cares about.

A-Train (Jesse T. Usher) asks Ashley (Colby Minifie) to set up a meeting with Blue Hawk (Nick Wechsler). She thinks it’s beneath A-Train, but it’s a matter of social justice. Ashley tells A-Train to focus on his energy drink campaign that mirrors the Pepsi campaign. Just like Kendall Jenner, A-Train lightens the mood when he offers the energy drink to a cop. (Hard eye roll)

Butcher, Hughie, Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) head to Russia. Frenchie is skeptical about Butcher’s arrangement with Little Nina. Butcher overhears Frenchie voice his concerns about Cherie. Butcher lets him know that he’s not that kind of monster.

IN THE NAME OF JUSTICE

The Boys find something interesting in Russia.

Starlight checks up on Maeve, who’s actually training. She says she also stopped drinking. Maeve admits that she gave Butcher the information about the weapon. Starlight wants to try to bring in more people to take down Homelander, but Maeve wants to do this alone.

Once the Boys get to Russia, they immediately see how much the Russians hate the Seven. Butcher informs everyone what his deal with Nina is. He tells Kimiko to go in and kill someone for Nina. It was either this or give Cherie’s head to Nina. Kimiko tries to refuse, but Butcher won’t let her.

Starlight recruits Supersonic (Miles Gaston Villanueva) for an attack on Homelander. He agrees without thinking about it. She asks him why. He says he wants to help her because it’s the right thing to do. They head to Supersonic’s first Seven meeting, where Homelander serves the newest member tacos.

Homelander dismisses everyone but A-Train asks for a moment. He tells them about how Blue Hawk is over patrolling Black neighborhoods. A-Train asks to address the issue to get a bump in approval ratings from the African American population. The Deep (Chace Crawford) interrupts, at Cassandra’s (Katy Breier) instruction, saying it’s a bad idea. They can’t look soft on crime. Homelander agrees with Deep and shoots down A-Train’s request. Ashley tells Homelander that Victoria is holding a press conference about him. He tells her to find out what the press conference is about.

WEAPON OF CHOICE

Outside of the conference room, A-Train confronts Deep for interrupting his request. They both have dirt on each other and threaten to use it. The two supes end up punching each other. Homelander walks up and helps Deep stand up. He tells A-Train to lay there and rest his useless legs. Supersonic helps A-Train up and leads him to the elevator to cool off. A-Train is upset that Homelander is going to back up Deep over him. Supersonic says they might be able to do something about it.

MM tells Butcher that he won’t put up with his bad attitude. Butcher tells him that he and Mallory (Laila Robins) picked MM because his platoon had good things to say about him. He says no matter how hard he has to be, he knows MM will always look after the Boys.

Frenchie drops off Kimiko at a mansion. She’s dressed to impress, heels and all. She enters a room with one man and several hookers. He pulls out his special collection of The Seven vibrators. He picks the Homelander one to begin his fun. Kimiko jams the Black Noir vibrator into the back of the man’s head, killing him. His goons enter the room and Kimiko proceeds to kill them in various ways. One of the girls shoots Kimiko in the head, but Kimiko is okay. She gets sad when she sees that the girls are afraid of her.

SELF PRESERVATION

Victoria addresses the press. Homelander watches with Maeve, Starlight, and Supersonic. Victoria tells the press that Homelander came forward as a whistleblower, providing evidence against CEO Stan Edgar. The Bureau will conduct an investigation into charges of blackmail, perjury, and obstruction of justice by Edgar.

Maeve, Starlight and Supersonic are shocked. Homelander says Vought is a superhero company and he should have done this a long time ago. All he did was set things straight. For anyone who’s been hiding Edgar, that’s all over. It’s the Dawn of the Seven.

Edgar asks Victoria why she turned on him. She says all these years, he said he was protecting her, but she was protecting him. Now she wants to protect Zoe. Security escorts Edgar out of the room.

Kimiko and Frenchie return to the Boys and give Butcher the evidence he needs to send to Little Nina. Kimiko is upset and says she can’t do this anymore. Frenchie tries to console her, saying the girls were scared. She understands why they were scared. Those girls were sold and she feels like Butcher sold her. Kimiko says Butcher doesn’t treat them like people. He’s as bad as Little Nina. All she has is Frenchie. Frenchie agrees and says it’s time that they leave after they finish the job, for Hughie and MM … no Butcher.

GLORIOUS FIVE YEAR PLAN

Victoria Neuman makes a move against a powerful man on The Boys

Victoria meets Homelander later that night. He tells her that Edgar was ready to turn on her and gives her a file from Edgar’s office. Edgar thought of Victoria as a weapon, not his daughter. Homelander tries to convince Victoria that they belong on the same side. She interrupts him, asking for his end of the bargain. He hands her a vial of Compound V. Homelander says he’s glad she chose her own kind.

Butcher shoots up with Temp V again before they head out. Hughie catches him and asks to try some. Butcher tells him no, but Hughie says he feels powerless. He only wants to protect Starlight as much as Butcher wants to protect Ryan (Cameron Crovetti). Butcher says Temp V isn’t power. It’s punishment. And Hughie doesn’t deserve any of it.

Edgar visits with Homelander. He asks what the Supe gave Victoria to make her turn on him. Homelander says he gave her respect, but Edgar knows that’s not true. He tells Homelander that Vought is his now. There’s no one to stand up to him but there’s also no one to cover for him. Soon, the world will see him for the pitiful disappointment he is. Edgar says Homelander doesn’t deserve respect. He’s not a god; he’s a bad product.

Victoria injects the Compound V into Zoe. She wants Zoe to be able to protect herself if she needs to. She holds Zoe while the girl cries in pain.

SECRET WEAPON

The Boys break into a military warehouse … maybe more like a lab. As MM takes down security guards, he references Red Dawn and Rocky 4. They look around a bit before finding a killer hamster. The hamster tries to get out of his container and sets off the alarms. Security shows up and starts shooting at the Boys. The hamster actually kills one of the guards.

When the boys run out of ammo, Butcher has to do what needs to be done. He steps out of hiding, getting hit by bullets. MM watches as the bullets ricochet off of Butcher’s chest. Butcher uses his laser eyes to take out the guards. One of the guards sneaks up behind MM. Hughie sees him and teleports to the guard. He punches through the guard’s chest, killing him. Hughie took the Temp V as well! He’s also naked, teleporting out of his clothes as well.

The others are shocked that they would purposefully do this to themselves. Butcher changes the subject, getting back to finding the weapon they came for. He opens a large container and out steps a man. That man is Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles).

NO MORE TEAM

Soldier Boy’s chest lights up. He emits a blast of energy. Kimiko pushes Frenchie out of the way and takes the full blow. Soldier Boy walks away. Frenchie checks on Kimiko. She has a metal rod stuck in her stomach. She’s losing a lot of blood because she’s not healing. They pick up Kimiko and take her to the hospital.

On the way, Frenchie and MM try to keep Kimiko awake while Hughie is on a high from the Temp V. His broken arm is completely healed. Butcher makes a comment about how the Russians enhanced Soldier Boy’s powers. MM doesn’t care. He says it’s over. There’s no team anymore.

Starlight and Homelander make a public appearance. Homelander wants to fly with Starlight, saying he has a view he wants to show her. They fly to a rooftop where a dead body lays. It’s Supersonic and his face is missing. Homelander says this is her fault.

A-Train told him about Starlight and Supersonic’s plan to take down Homelander. He says there will be no more plotting or planning. From here on out, she will be his dutiful main squeeze, worshiping him. If she steps out of line, he will do the same to Hughie. Starlight acknowledges and he tells her to find her own way home and flies away.
