Adaptation of THE BOOGEYMAN Rounds Out Cast and Begins Filming

Stephen King and The Night Shift Book containing The Boogeyman story

The 20th Century Studios adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Boogeyman has filled out its cast. According to the initial report from DeadlineDavid Dastmalchian, Madison Hu, Marin Ireland and Vivian Lyra Blair have signed on to star beside Chris Messina and Sophie Thatcher.

This film’s story comes from one of the short stories published in King’s The Night Shift. It follows two sisters who recently lost their mother.

While still dealing with this life-altering situation, the two find themselves the target of a supernature entity. Sad and scared, the sisters’ world changes again after encountering their father, a psychologist, and one of his patients.

20th Century Studios is not the first to adapt King’s short story for film. Other iterations have appeared through the decades between The Night Shift’s release and now.

Akela Cooper, Bryan Woods and Scott Beck wrote previous versions of The Boogeyman script. The most recent draft comes from the mind of Mark Heyman. Additionally, Rob Savage is directing.

Dastmalchian has starred in feature films such as Dune, The Suicide Squad and Ant-Man; Ireland is known for her roles in The Umbrella Academy, Homeland, Hell or High Water and many others. 

Blair’s credits include Bird Box, The Goldbergs and Waco; Hu appeared in the popular Disney show Bizaardvark, television series The Goldbergs and feature film Voyagers.

The Boogeyman has started filming and is currently in production in New Orleans. The film debuts in 2023. It will air on Hulu for U.S. viewers, Star Plus in Latin America and Disney Plus under the Star banner everywhere else.
