THE BATMAN Circles Closer on Casting Lead Role

The legacy of the Bat continues over at Warner Bros. After the year-long drama on whether or not Ben Affleck would direct and star in a solo Batman film, the mantle will be passed on to another actor. According to Variety, actor Robert Pattinson will be doning the cowl for Matt Reeves‘ directed/written/produced  The Batman. However, a contradicting report from Deadline notes that Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult are in the top spots for the lead role with neither cast yet.

According to the Variety report, negotiations haven’t been finalized but are expected to wrap up shortly with Pattinson in the leading role. There is currently no official start date on production but sources have said that late 2019 or 2020 is the projected time. The script is currently going through final revisions so the start date is pending on that. Additionally, it is still unclear whether or not this film will be set in the current DC cinematic universe or will be it’s own film.

When Michael Keaton was cast as The Caped Crusader, fans wrote to the studio to complain. The internet was ablaze with disapproval when Heath Ledger was cast as the iconic Joker. So if Pattinson is cast, he could be great for the film Reeves is working on. However, I would not like the casting at all as his filmography doesn’t have much in terms of range, in my humble opinion. Hoult would be an exciting choice and I could see him jumping around Gotham’s rooftops. Either way, it is highly likely that an announcement will be made very soon for who has been cast as our new Bruce Wayne/Batman.

What do you think of the casting choices? Who would you like to see playing Batman? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more DC news! The Batman is currently in pre-production with a current release date of June 25th, 2021.
