Guys, it’s here! James Gunn dropped the very first trailer for his upcoming supervillain flick, The Suicide Squad. And let me tell you, this trailer does not disappoint! It has a little bit of everything – action, comedy and even a bit of the overall story. We finally get the chance to see some old favorites and several newcomers to the series suit up.

The Suicide Squad trailer opens up as the team diverts from their mission to save Harley (Margot Robbie). Of course, she doesn’t need saving; who do they think she is? Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) updates the new recruits on the deal they have made. Successfully complete a mission and get ten years off your sentence. Ignore her orders and the explosive device goes boom.  We get flashes of the team suiting up, taking on a few lesser missions and a great shot of King Shark (voiced by Sylvester Stallone) grabbing a snack.

The second half of The Suicide Squad trailer is where things really heat up. We know they are heading on a mission to the remote island Corto Maltese which is overrun by enemies and we get the chance to see the group mobilize and head in. We even get a funny little bit between Peacemaker (John Cena) and Bloodsport (Idris Elba) regarding what one will do for liberty. A true reminder that this film might scream action, but it’s the comedy that brings its charm. The trailer ties up with quite a few action scenes, including King Shark tearing apart a man in full R-rated style.

The Suicide Squad looks flipping amazing. I was never a big fan of the original film and was so excited when James Gunn signed on for this one. This misfit villain group needs a film that will allow them to embrace their characters to the fullest. Watching John Cena’s portrayal of Peacemaker makes me really excited for his series coming to HBO Max sometime next year. But in the end, it was King Shark that really stole the show. I can’t wait to see what else he brings to the table in the film.

Robbie, Davis, Stallone, Cena and Elba are joined by Joel Kinnaman, Taika Waititi, Jai Courtney, Michael Rooker, Alice Braga, Nathan Fillion, Pete Davidson, David Dastmalchian, Sean Gunn, Peter Capaldi, Daniela Melchior, Joaquín Cosio, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Steve Agee, Mayling Ng, Flora Borg, Jennifer Holland and Tinashe Kajese.

The Suicide Squad is set to release on August 6, 2021. It will have a theatrical release and will also be available to HBO Max subscribers for 31 days. We have linked the trailer below, but you will need to head over to YouTube to watch it! How excited are you to see James Gunn’s vision come to life?
