DISCLAIMER: This recap of The Ark Season 2 Episode 11, “It Will Be Over Soon,” contains spoilers. Proceed at your peril.
It’s the penultimate episode of The Ark Season 2, and sh*t hits the blackmailing fan. We learn Felix’s daughter is alive and in the clutches of a fellow intent on committing nefarious deeds. We also discover Felix’s blackmailer is on Trappist 1D. A rotten apple spoils the bunch, right? I hope Felix uses his katana on this guy. The outing plants seeds for the season finale, which will undoubtedly be wall-to-wall bonkers. This show doesn’t know any other way to be.

The Ark, “It Will Be Over Soon”
We open with our crew arriving in the same star system as Trappist 1D, their potential new home. Alicia (Stacey Read) gives everyone a breakdown of the planetary conditions. Lt. Brice (Richard Fleeshman) asks for a non-science genius explanation. Essentially, it’s like Earth and can support life. Capt. Garnet (Christie Burke) contacts the home base on Trappist 1D, who gives Ark 1 the go-ahead to proceed. Garnet realizes she must persuade the planet’s occupants to let an Eastern Federation ship join their colony. As of now, the EF2 hasn’t arrived.
Everyone rejoices on the bridge — Garnet and Alicia hug; Brice and Eva (Tiana Upcheva) embrace. They can finally settle down. Meanwhile, Kelly (Samantha Glassner) is pretty pissed at Dr. Marsh (Jadran Malkovich) for failing to disclose that he participated in posthuman experiments. Of course, he had his implants removed because they didn’t take. Marsh claims it wasn’t relevant; he was a failed experiment. After this, Marsh pivots, reassuring Kelly that she’s not a monster and is capable of great things with her augments. She can save humanity.
A Reaction
Then, Alicia heads to engineering to recalibrate the UT38 ratio. Maija asks why she’s there, adding that it’s Trust’s shift. He usually does the calibration. Alicia informs her that Trust claims he can’t work due to a sciatica flare-up. Sure, Jan. Suddenly, the reactor explodes. Maija leaps in front of Alicia, taking the brunt of the steam.

Eva informs Garnet of the reactor overloading and ensures that any radiation emitted from the reactor doesn’t spread throughout the ship. Next, Garnet visits Alicia in medbay. Dr. Kabir (Shalini Peiris) reassures our captain that Alicia’s burns are minor and will heal. Unfortunately, Maija’s burns are more severe. We see she’s unconscious. Angus (Ryan Adams) barrels into medbay to check on Alicia. What a good boyfriend.
Later, Garnet returns to engineering to get to the bottom of why the reactor exploded. Trust (Paul Murray) finally makes his grand entrance. Always fashionably late, that one. When he learns about the explosion, he looks over the codes, observing that Alicia could recalibrate the UT38 ratio in her sleep. Something is off. Trust decides to collaborate with Eva to find a solution.
More Than a Dream
Then, Ian (Reece Ritchie) flags down Garnet. He offers an ear for whenever she wants to chat — or even simply vent about life. She tries to evade him. Ian presses on, claiming he can’t switch off his emotions. They lived a lifetime together in their shared coma dream. Ian believes they know each other quite well at this point. Garnet insists that’s not the case. After all, it was a dream.

Meanwhile, Felix (Pavle Jerinic) practices with his katana, as one does on a spaceship. I love this silly little show. Suddenly, a mysterious voice contacts Felix from his wrist device. It commands him to switch out the capacitors in engineering. Why? Because said voice has Felix’s daughter, Catherine. Felix asks Catherine a question only she can answer to prove it’s her. When she passes the test, Felix realizes it’s really, truly his daughter. The voice threatens that Catherine will lose a finger if Felix doesn’t do as he’s told.
Then, the voice warns him of Garnet opening his door. The voice orders Felix not to divulge their chat to the captain. Garnet enters, wanting to discuss security protocols for their arrival on Trappist 1D. Noting how exhausted Felix looks, Garnet tables the discussion for another time. After Garnet departs, Felix sees a message on his wrist device ordering him to head to Sub-Engineering 5.
Blackmail
Later, Alicia and Kelly ask Marsh if Kelly can give her nanites to Maija to facilitate the latter’s healing. Marsh claims it doesn’t work that way. Kabir contacts Felix to ask if they will have their training session in the gym. Felix asks for a rain check. Then, he enters Sub-Engineering 5, where the mystery blackmailer instructs him to swap two capacitors. Felix lingers before backing out of the room. However, the blackmailer is well aware that Felix didn’t do as he was told. Apparently, dude has eyes everywhere.

Felix runs into Ian. He uses the flimsy excuse that security needed to scope out a live wire. Ian doesn’t buy it for a second (hence, “flimsy”). Once on the bridge, Felix tries to write an SOS on a book page. Unfortunately, the blackmailer messages his wrist device with another threat, ordering him not to share the SOS with Garnet.
Meanwhile, Kelly and Marsh have a heart-to-heart in the former’s cell. The conversation shifts to Evelyn Maddox. Marsh asks Kelly if she meant what she said about her mom, that she’d kill her if they reunited. Kelly still feels resolute about this. Elsewhere, Trust and Eva realize that someone tampered with the system, overloading the reactor in a murder attempt. But who would want to kill Alicia and Maija?
A Murder Attempt
Ian voices his concerns regarding Felix to Garnet, who isn’t buying it. Why would Felix tamper with the reactor or the capacitors? Eva informs them about her and Trust’s findings during a meeting with the senior officers. Someone intentionally changed the coding to vent radioactive coolant to kill anyone near the malfunctioning reactor.

While everyone talks this over, Felix taps Morse code with his fingers, hoping Garnet notices it. She asks Felix to do a background check on Maija, who’s a 15er. The blackmailer messages him and orders him to direct our crew away from Maija. So, Felix brings up Ian, accusing the clone of potentially trying to murder Alicia and Maija. Garnet trusts Felix’s judgment. If he has a hunch, he should follow it.
Then, the blackmailer orders Felix to override the failsafe in the airlock. Meaning that the system will now register a human presence in the airlock even when it’s empty. Like before, Felix does as he’s bid. Meanwhile, Garnet confines Alicia to her cabin, stating it’s for her safety. They’re still unsure if Alicia was the target. Garnet urges Angus to stay with Alicia to keep her company. Aw.
Trust Loves a Spacewalk
Later, the senior officers meet again, this time to discuss the DOTE. As if our crew doesn’t have enough on their plate, the DOTE overloads. Like before, they’ll need to do a spacewalk to repair it so they can get to Trappist. Trust will do it, but only if Garnet joins him again. The blackmailer messages Felix, ordering him to accompany Trust for the DOTE repairs. Felix urges Garnet to stay put. After all, she’s the captain. They need her.

Next, Ian brings his suspicions about Felix to Brice, who’s initially incredulous about Felix betraying them. However, he’s willing to entertain Ian’s concerns. In Sub-Engineering 5, the fellas bond over their mutual love of jazz. Brice reminisces about Lane, claiming that the late lieutenant described jazz as different instrumentalists who can’t decide which song to play. Ian laughs. He wishes he got to know Lane better.
Then, our boys notice the switched capacitors. Felix later followed his orders from the blackmailer. This evidence certainly lends credence to Ian’s suspicions. Meanwhile, Felix visits Garnet in her cabin, speaking in code to avoid the blackmailer detecting his speech. Well, at least there aren’t any cameras in the crew quarters. Garnet finally catches on. After this, she searches Maija’s wrist device to find a threatening message from the blackmailer. Apparently, he was targeting Maija’s brother.
Remember Earth
Garnet gazes longingly at the white wedding dress in the “Remember Earth” box. Is she ready to talk things through with Ian? Later, Garnet calls a crew meeting, which Ian joins. She blocks out the windows to the meeting room and turns on a recording of a speech. Then, she silently orders the senior officers to remove their wrist devices before shuttling them off to a cameraless room with spacesuits and helmets.

Now that they’re safe from prying blackmailer eyes and ears, Garnet apologizes to Felix for not understanding his SOS sooner. Brice realizes that Felix was using Morse code during their meetings. Felix reveals that a mysterious someone is blackmailing him. This blackmailer has his daughter. During this time, everyone discovers that Trust was the target, not Alicia and Maija. After all, he was supposed to be on duty.
Later, Felix hears from the blackmailer, who informs him that he and Trust won’t return from the spacewalk. Not only is Felix meant to kill Trust, but the blackmailer states it’s a “no survivors” situation. Once our boys are suited and outside, Trust begins repairing the DOTE. Then, Felix detaches Trust’s tether, sending the latter hurtling through space. Felix soars after him. Trust screams.
Pulling the Wool Over His Eyes
Inside the ship, Eva notes that the airlock has two people in it. Then, we see a faceless person with a wrist device. This is the blackmailer. He communicates with a mystery person that Trust and Felix are dead. We see him watching the footage of Felix and Trust spinning through space. The blackmailer declares he’ll “take the girl back to where she belongs.”

Meanwhile, the EF2 rescues Trust and Felix. On Ark 1, Garnet, Ian, Brice and Eva explain the little stunt they just pulled to Alicia. They had to make the blackmailer think Felix and Trust shuffled off this mortal coil. Part of that was camouflaging the EF2 so our duo could safely board. Oh, and keep Trust in the dark about all this. He’s not the best actor. Garnet communicates with Felix and Trust, and the latter isn’t thrilled about being a pawn in our crew’s mission to foil the blackmailer.
Later, Garnet apologizes to Ian. She reveals she’ll eventually be game to discuss the decades they spent together in Coma Land. However, she needs time. Ian smiles, agreeing to give that to her. There’s still hope for GarnIan. Ianet?
The Enemy on Home Base
Next, Alicia researches the blackmailer’s location. She barrels onto the bridge, informing Garnet and the crew that it’s someone on the home base on Trappist 1D. Uh-oh. Someone in their new home loathes Trust to the point of wanting to commit murder. What’ll he do when he learns that Trust (and Felix) is still alive?
