In a Tweet sent on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, Star Trek: Picard season 3 showrunner Terry Matalas teased a possible spinoff series: Star Trek: Legacy. “In case you’re wondering, Star Trek: Legacy is what I’d call a spin-off show from Star Trek: Picard,” Tweeted Matalas. “A 25th Century show that explores the Last Generation and the Next…”

The Tweet set off speculation among fans and Trek professionals alike. On the March 23, 2023, episode of The View, co-host Whoopi Goldberg (Guinan) interviewed LeVar Burton (Geordi La Forge) and Mica Burton (Alandra La Forge). Soon, the conversation turned to the recently-christened hypothetical spin-off Legacy.

Asked directly whether or not they would be willing to return for a spinoff, both LeVar and Mica answered unequivocally that they would. LeVar continued, “What the writers have done is they’ve really set it up well. We’ve got the next generation of the next generation… It makes a whole lot of sense.” Check out the clip below, as Tweeted by Todd Stashwick (Titan-A Captain Liam Shaw).

Both new and returning actors have voiced their eagerness to continue the narrative of Picard season 3. In an appearance on Good Day Chicago on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, Stashwick further confirmed his willingness to participate in a spin-off series. Stashwick continued that he has yet to hear any official confirmation on a spinoff from Paramount. However, he was encouraging towards Trekkies who are voicing their desire for Legacy. “Strange New Worlds got a spinoff because of fan engagement,” Stashwick said. “And right now fans are creating a typhoon and tidal wave of excitement for our show. Hopefully, that will move the needle. I haven’t been told one way or the other.”

Furthermore, in an interview with Geek Girl Authority, actor Stephanie Czajkowski confirmed a willingness to reprise the role of Lt. T’Veen. “Oh, yeah, sign me on,” said Czajkowski. “Any time, any day.”

How can fans help ensure Legacy makes it to Paramount+? On March 23, Michael Okuda Tweeted: “As has been noted elsewhere, the factors in programming decisions include the number of subscribers who stream a show and the number of times they stream it. But it has to be big numbers in order to make a difference.”

In other words: stream early, and stream often! New episodes of Picard season 3 are currently available for streaming on Paramount+ on Thursdays.
