Brilliant director Taika Waititi is at Sundance this year (Taking a break from directing Thor: Ragnarok!) with his film Hunt for the Wilderpeople. The teaser, entitled ‘A Real Bad Egg’ embraces that wonderful New Zealand sense of humor that we fell in love with while watching Flight of the Concords and Waititi’s What We Do in the Shadows.

(NOTE: If you haven’t seen What We Do in the Shadows, you really need to see it now. NOW. It’s hands down one of the best films of 2014 and it will give you the belly laughs that make you feel so good)

The film is based on the book ‘Wild Pork and Watercress,’ written by Barry Crump. Raised on hip-hop and foster care, defiant city kid Ricky gets a fresh start in the New Zealand countryside. He quickly finds himself at home with his new foster family: the loving Aunt Bella, the cantankerous Uncle Hec, and dog Tupac. When a tragedy strikes that threatens to ship Ricky to another home, both he and Hec go on the run in the bush. As a national manhunt ensues, the newly branded outlaws must face their options: go out in a blaze of glory or overcome their differences and survive as a family. In this trailer called ‘A Real Bad Egg’, we get to see this rebellious kid, Ricky, go around a commit super petty crimes that are more annoying and funny than horrible. Ricky eventually takes off with his foster Uncle Hec (Sam Neill) and their dog named Tupac.

Aside of new comer Julian Dennison and Sam Neill, the film has Rhys Darby in it. Darby was amazing as the manager in Flight of the Concords and killed it in his cameo in What We Do in the Shadows (Seriously, watch that movie!)

No word on a release date for the United States yet.
