Welcome to Tavern Talk Thursday! We are expanding! What started as a column dedicated to chatting with members of the TTRPG community is growing to talk about all things TTRPG. We aim to continue sharing all the things we love about the community and all the content within. So, consider this a little peek into our favorite worlds and creators as we explore everything we love.
September is here at the tavern, and you know what that means – spooky season has begun. And what better way to enjoy the season than by spending hours cowering in the corner listening to some of our favorite spooky TTRPG shows? Just grab some warm blankets to hide under and a comfort drink to help ease the fears. Check out four series you should check out before diving into your own terrifying TTRPG adventure.
Spooky TTRPG Shows
Grizzly Peaks Radio
Grizzly Peaks Radio is a group that snuck onto our radar and has become an absolute staple. The podcast has been going on for years and features Call of Cthulhu campaigns, including one dedicated to Masks of Nyarlathotep. The players rotate with Andy Goodman as the Keeper in most of the adventures. We love the Call of Cthulhu mythos and the world that the series brings us. And the best part is there are tons of different campaigns to dive into and fall in love with.

The Eldritch Hour
Welcome to The Eldritch Hour, a live play TTPRG series that dives into the spooky and horror that comes with Call of Cthulhu. The series Keeper is Josh Richter and features a table full of his friends and family. What drew us in is how Richter can spin his stories and explain precisely what we are seeing. It’s so easy to close our eyes and allow ourselves to drift off into this world. They are releasing a new campaign titled The Wild Hunt, but all previous ones should be on your must-listen lists.

Nobody Wake the Bugbear
After finding the Mothership RPG by Tuesday Night Games on another list of nonfantasy-related TTRPGs, we came across Nobody Wake the Bugbear. The group, led by Andrew, has recently kicked off a campaign within the Mothership RPG after finishing up their Dungeons and Dragons 5e campaign, Ghosts of Gauntlgrym. Each episode is a wild ride (and we dare you not to listen simply for their accents) but also gives us a peak at the new system and only makes us want to play it more.

Role Playing Public Radio
Our final spooky TTRPG show is the Role Playing Public Radio show. And this one is a biggie. The platform has been around for years and features many campaigns, some spooky and some not too much. But all of them are absolutely incredible. With so many different ones to choose from, listeners are sure to find something that fills their needs. Looking for where to start? We suggest their Call of Cthulhu, The Sense of the Sleight of Hand.
