Welcome to Tavern Talk Thursday! We are expanding! What started as a column dedicated to chatting with members of the TTRPG community is growing to talk about all things TTRPG. We aim to continue sharing all the things we love about the community and all the content within. So, consider this a little peek into our favorite worlds and creators as we explore everything we love.

We blinked and the entire month of June has blown by. And while we mourn how fast the past few weeks have gone, we are excited to look forward to July. And that means it’s time to take a look at more TTRPG Kickstarters. From new game systems to an adventure that promises to dive into the nostalgia of the ’70s and ’80s, we have something for everyone to enjoy.

Kickstarters to Keep an Eye On

ProgCore Fantasy: Dark Age of Theer

Kicking off our July Kickstarter list is one personally close to our hearts. While ProgCore Fantasy may be a new company, the names behind it have years of experience in the TTRPG world. For their first endeavor into the world, David Nett and Todd Stashwick are bringing players Dark Age of Theer. This is a multi-media fantasy adventure that will evoke nostalgia for dark fantasy series like Rankin & Bass’s The Hobbit. And one of the best parts about this project? It’s system-agnostic so that GMs can use the world, unique monsters and ideas in a system they know and love.

You can learn more about ProgCore Fantasy’s Dark Age of Theer on the official Kickstarter page.

D100 Random Encounters for Medieval Fantasy TTRPGs

Our next Kickstarter is here to help those GMs who struggle to come up with random encounters or a GM looking to spice things up. 2DTabletop’s D100 Random Encounters is exactly that: 100 random encounters that can be added to any medieval fantasy setting. There are no fancy bells or whistles with this Kickstarter; it’s just good old fun. One of the fun things 2DTabletop is doing is expanding past the 100 encounters and making one for every additional project backer. Imagine a book packed with over 300 projects you can throw at your players in the blink of an eye.

The Wych Elm

For those DMs looking to take their players on a new one-shot adventure, we suggest checking out Mountainland Games’ The Wych Elm. The TTRPG adventure is written to work in Dungeons and Dragons 5e and Shadowdark. The adventure is full of mystery and wonder and perfect for those seasoned players or those coming to the table for the first time. While it is scaled for 4-6 players with characters between 3rd and 6th level, it is easy to adjust to fit into any ongoing adventure.

The Maddening Red Wastes

Our final Kickstarter for July is Jester Knight Games’ The Maddening Red Wastes. After spending years playing TTRPGs, Jester Knight Games is here with their own take on the genre. The project is set to include a sourcebook that introduces players to the game system itself, the world, playable races, talents, flaws, magic items, monsters, and so much more. Those looking to explore The Maddening Red Wastes’ game system can download the playtest on DriveThruRPG. We are excited to watch this system grow and see what adventures come next.
