Talk about a blast from the past! With streaming giants like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu providing streamers with practically any movie they want to watch, rental services like Blockbuster have been made obsolete. In fact, most people assume the once-beloved video rental shop closed up a long time ago. And those people would be wrong. Blockbuster is still in operation in just one location. That’s right, kids! Despite the complete annihilation of the video store, the Blockbuster in Bend, Oregon has persevered and is now the subject of an upcoming documentary, appropriately named, The Last Blockbuster.
Filmmaker Taylor Morden and producer Zeke Kamm are taking viewers on one last trip to the video store while overlooking the rise and fall of the Blockbuster franchise. In the brand new trailer for the documentary we see the staff of the world’s last Blockbuster, the owner, the manager, the employees, and patrons, former and current. Enjoy some much-needed nostalgia in the trailer below!
The documentary will be released sometime this year.
The Last Blockbuster is a fun, nostalgic look back at the era of video rentals and the story of how one small town video store managed to outlast a corporate giant. The film follows the manager of the world’s last remaining Blockbuster video (located in Bend, OR), Sandi Harding, as she navigates the difficult task of keeping a video rental store open in the era of Netflix.
