Taika Waititi is a busy man. Waititi officially signed on to write and direct Thor 4, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Maori writer/director/actor directed the 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok as well as portraying Korg, the Kronan.
In related news, THR is also reporting that Warner Bros has put Waititi’s Akira project on hold due to conflicting schedules. Waititi could return to the project after the fourth installment of Thor is complete.
Chris Hemsworth should reprise his role as the God of Thunder, but that’s all we know for now. If it’s anything like Ragnarok, fans are in for a good time. Waititi gave the Thor franchise a different tone, showing off Hemsworth’s comedic chops and a humility rarely seen in superhero movies.
The real question is, what’s next for Thor after Avengers: Endgame? Spoiler for anyone who hasn’t see Endgame, Thor is the remaining member of the trinity of power. With Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) gone, rest in peace, and Captain America (Chris Evans) growing old; Thor is the strongest Avenger left. We last saw of him, Thor left Earth, with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Leaving behind the surviving Asgardians under the capable leadership of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson).
I’m excited to find out what Waititi comes up with. He’s a brilliant writer and director and a fun actor to watch. It’s always great to see Indigenous filmmakers do well.
This film does not have a title or release date. Geek Girl Authority has got you covered on all the Thor 4 updates.
