Some apropos news dropped on this Star Wars Day. Taika Waititi, who won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for JoJo Rabbit, is set to direct and co-write the next Star Wars feature film. Waititi is no stranger to directing big budget movies with lots of stakes having directed the successful Thor: Ragnarok. He’s currently working on that film’s follow-up Thor: Love and Thunder. He’s also no stranger to working in the Star Wars universe. He recently directed The Mandalorian season finale episode ‘Redemption’ and also played IG-11 in the series.

On board with him to co-write is Krysty Wilson-Cairns who wrote for Penny Dreadful and also wrote the award winning film, 1917. That’s  all the information about Waititi’s film that was released by Disney in their press release. There is no word on when the film is set to come out. Still, this is very exciting news. Waititi is a fan favorite when it comes to all things nerdy. He’s passionate about what he loves, and he loves Star Wars
