Taika Waititi New Year’s resolution must have been to top the previous decade, which by the way is a very tall order. Fresh off of receiving six Academy Award nominations for JoJo Rabbit, Waititi is rumored to be in talks to develop a new Star Wars movie according to Variety

It’s not known where in the negotiation process Waititi is but it does seem to be happening. Or does it? The now Oscar nominated writer, actor and producer posted a cryptic tweet after the news created a storm on social media.

Disney and Lucasfilm have had no comment so far. The decision to approach Waititi isn’t surprising. Aside from his recent Oscar nominations for Jojo Rabbit, he received much acclaim and fan-god status for directing Thor: Ragnarok. And, let’s not forget his films Hunt for the Wilderpeople and fan favorite vampire comedy What We Do in the Shadows which is now a television series.

Waititi also starred as IG-11 in Disney+’s The Mandalorian series and directed the season finale. If all this is true about the Star Wars film, we give an emphatic “Yay!”
