Brace yourselves, friends, for the tear-inducing Christmas advertisements are in full swing! Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi was at the helm for Coca-Cola’s Christmas commercial. Full disclosure: you will weep tears of happiness. Unless you’re a robot. Which is very plausible in 2020.

The Christmas ad opens with an earnest father reluctantly leaving his family behind for the season. His work beckons him across the waters. Prior to his departure, the man’s daughter gives him her letter to Santa Claus. While eating lunch one day, the man spots a mail vessel. He takes a boat out to deliver his daughter’s letter when things start to go incredibly pear-shaped. He’s left stranded in his boat, a whale knocks him out of said boat and he washes ashore somewhere. Thankfully, the letter is still in his grip.

Next, he decides to trek to the North Pole himself. After miles upon miles laden with hitchhiking and climbing through subzero temperatures, the man arrives at Old Saint Nick’s house. However, it’s “closed for Christmas.” Feeling despaired, the man finds a Coca-Cola semitruck pulling in. He hops aboard the truck as the driver takes him back home. As the man exits the truck, we see the driver hand him his daughter’s letter, which states that her Christmas wish is for her father to come home. Then, we see his daughter run outside to greet him.

In a year riddled with trauma and disaster, it’s nice to see a happy ending for once. Also, this dad should probably win Father of the Year every year for the rest of his life. Talk about a journey!

You can check out the commercial below. Just have a box of tissues on hand. You’ll need it. Thank you, Taika Waititi, for this much-needed feel-good story to brighten our Christmas.

Did you bawl like a baby while watching Taika Waititi’s Coca-Cola Christmas advert? We sure did.
