Oh dear. Doctor Who’s seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy doesn’t think the a woman should ever regenerate as the Time Lord. Stating that while he is a feminist, some things just shouldn’t change.
“I’m a feminist and recognise there are still glass ceilings in place for many women, but where would we draw the line? A Mr Marple instead of Miss Marple? A Tarzanette?”
He went on to add;
“I’m sorry, but no – Doctor Who is a male character, just like James Bond. If they changed it to be politically correct then it would ruin the dynamics between the doctor and the assistant, which is a popular part of the show”
In all honesty I felt that way when I heard that Starbuck would be played by a woman in the Battlestar Galactica reboot and wow, was I wrong. Ultimately Katee Sackhoff killed it as Kara Thrace.
As for a female Doctor, why not?! You can’t tell me Helen Mirren or Emma Thompson wouldn’t crush it as a time-traveling Time Lord!
