Last January, Syfy promised us the moon when the network stated they were going back to their roots – Science Fiction. The slate for 2015 included 12 Monkeys, Killjoys, Dark Matter, Childhood’s End and The Expanse to name a few. The network did not disappoint with one exception – the cancelation of the very well written, produced and acted, Defiance.
This January, on the heels of critical success with the mini-series Childhood’s End and the new exciting sci-fi series The Expanse, which just got a second season pick-up, Syfy is lauding their 2015 successes and stirring feelings of anticipation with what they have in store for 2016.
The 2016 promo contains footage from the currently running series The Expanse plus footage for returning shows 12 Monkeys, Dark Matter, Kill Joys, Z Nation and new shows such as The Magicians which comes out this month and Hunters which premieres in April. There was no footage for Van Helsing which is slated to come out later this year.
It seems promising that 2016 can only build on the momentum that began in 2015. Syfy’s gamble to venture back into space and trust high concept content and execute it with stunning imagery and solid storytelling has paid off with fans incredibly well.
